First let me say that I was honored to meet Ruben Berrios when he was camped out on the bombing range in Vieques in 1999.
He is truely a great man.

OK here goes since this site won't let me post that many characters, please go to http://www.geocities.com/elgranmoncho2002/engver.html

Eddier get this clear, I do not write here to keep you happy.

I'm sick and tired of guys like you "tapando el cielo con la mano" This attitude is precisely why we prefer to discuss J-Lo, How big is Mark Anthony ( latest news on a P.R. TV magazine) Los Bochinches de la Comae, and the merits of eating at Ponderosa vs. Chili's.

Yes, a lot of things that I write here can be interpreted as negative. I'm not the type of guy who dwells on the folkloric stuff, the dances, the songs, the thought that White men can't dance or have sex as well as we do. Who cares!

As a colonial people WE HAVE PROBLEMS and denial or frosting our problems up with sugar won't make them go away. We have to confront them HEAD ON, if we are ever to make sense of ourselves.

For example:

1- Those in the States have been re-colonized by Blacks and adopted their world view. We have picked up their way of looking at race, like if their way was superior to ours. Yes, we too have problems with race, but when we look at our end product, RACE MIXTURE, we must have been doing something better than Blacks in the states. WE MIX, they don't! Nonetheless, we in the states have willingly accepted THEIR world race view even though ours , with all its "racism", has been more successful! Why did we adopt their way? Good topic for discussion.

2- On the island the majority refuses to accept the fact that GRINGOS DON'T WANT US! If they did we would already have been a state. Our desire to be a state has nothing to do with wanting to be Gringo, fly the flag or be White. It has to do with BEING KEPT and keeping the channels open for consumerism. Is it any wonder why the statehood sentiment began to blow off the charts once Welfare and K-Marts started invading the island in the 70's?

3- No , Puerto Ricans , in general, are not an intellectual lot. Like most people on this planet, we are run of the mill. Statehooders appear to be the worst, they are anti-intellectual and basically close minded. The majority of the PPD are the same with the best of them being practical and not wanting to rock the boat in fear the Gringos will kick us out before we've gotten our act together. The problem is WE NEVER GET OUR ACT TOGETHER! The Independentistas are the intelligensia of the island. Nonetheless some are too elitist to see below their own noses. Take Claridad for instance. Most regular Puerto Ricans don't read this paper because its reading level is above 10th grade. Most people stick to El Vocero whose reading level is about 4th grade. Like I said, we are not an intellectual lot, but overall we are better off than some trailer park evangelist inhabitant from Florida or Wyoming.

3- About political decisions, You Eddier must be living in LA LA LAND. Most colonials never become independent by their own decision. Its the Metropolis who gets tired of them, then sets them loose into the sunset. Most nations who have been colonies of highly industrial empires have always wanted annexation before anything else. Our situation is no different. IT WILL BE THE METROPLIS WHO WILL MAKE US INDEPENDENT!

4-About Fernado Ferrer, the guy is a klutz! Like a colonial and a white wanna be, he thought that appealing to White cops would get him somewhere. ¡LA CAGÓ! I will be voting for him nonetheless, if it counts for something.

5-About denigrating Ricans, not so. I write what I think here because this is a RICAN bOARD! I think we have to see ourselves beyond the cute folkloric sh*t we all write about here. We have to see ourselves with ALL OUR FLAWS! If we don't acknowledge our problems , HOW CAN WE EVER FIX THEM!

Instead of getting angry at my presentations why not engage me? Let's get out of our folkloric shells and see what we can do to fix up the mess we're in.

Cool

"WE MIX, they don't" This appears to be a generalization. Many of them do mix. I see more Pr and Black and white and black couples than black on black couples. When you live here thougha nd go through employment discrimination, police brutality, discriminiation with housing, shopping (from everything to a pair of shoes to cars), education system, to where you eat. You start adopting the peopl who have similiar views like African americans due to US mailand discrimination. I am a light skinned boricua with African looking features here is the US they view you as black whereever you are from period!!! They dont care what type of black you are. Some whites are educated and care and study that blacks landed in parts otehr that the USA. Even George Bush asked the president of Brazil" you have blacks here too'? Asians share similiar views they are very family oriented , uphold education. have buisness ownership, and dont mind their children fraternalizing with whites as my parents didnt .....but every ethnic group I have encountered has reservations about marrying into European caucasian culture. I had many indian friends but I knew my sister couldnt marry my friends brother. It is a sad ignorant part of life in the USA but Miranda this is life. The more situations we have like Katrina it will countinue to be viewed like this. I hope your son is blessed with opportunities but no matter how you raise him he could view things like this growning up here. Racism sucks but it is a two sided street African american views arent all righteous and perfect but niether are whites. WE should never forget that. We try to view our selves as mixed and in the middle but so do some AA's who do mix. Although most AA's in th south i find dont like me and I look similair to them. This is life but thwites ask me wow whtyre are black latinos, just like asians, Africans , people born in Europe even mexicans who are the most insular culture on the planet. Racism makes you view the world like this. We need to stop ananlyzing the symptoms and solve the problem ,....sadly that will depend on your son and my children who hopefully erase alot of this hatred. The way things are going it doesnt look good in the US . You other points I agree with for the most part. No isnlts just the facts let me know what you think .
Peace!

Yes you do have ignorant AA's but that is with any gorup just tonight me and my girl went to get some cuban fod.. The AA's were very disrespectful to me and my girl and the cubans were very nice and polite and exibited alot of class.

PS: The PR way is not perfect look at how some treat Dominicanos and other blacks. I pray we will al get better with time. Ignorance is easier to pursue than to be like El Senor ya know. To be honest I think black looking latinos have thier own view of viewing things due to situations like these. MY father said to me today they are your raza (Black or latino) but not your gente. You have to exibit some class manners and education (just be well rounded and worldly not have a masters) for me to respect someone.God Bless.

Happy Halloween
