I went to work on May 1!!!!!!!!!!
Hopefully all of you did too!![]() some may say we (puerto ricans) need solidarity with these people but ask yourself if they are looking out for our interest (not in the slightest) these illegals haven't shut down any economy... nor will they ever (at least not in one day) |

You are only one individual -- so you say you went to work on May Day, and you are an exception to the rule of workers who have a communal mind set. The fact is you made money, that is if you aren't making up a story to create controversy over the issue. But you don't matter, if you can't see beyond what other workers think of you and still support the working class. It won't matter, since once you show solidarity, you will receive recognition whether it is made public or not. Because the workers know whom belongs to their class and who doesn't. That's all.

workers who will gladly cross picket and border lines are to be embraced?
... 'tis the end of the teamsters and all other unions. I'm all in favor of a guest worker program but as a CARD CARRYING MEMBER OF A UNION AND CITIZEN OF THIS COUNTRY, cannot feel but enraged when compelled (just because you are Puerto Rican) to be drawn in to THEIR cause... it amazes me how the so-called Puerto Rican "intelligentsia" can proclaim to have the solution to other people's problems. And that is exactly what this immigration issue is... THEIR PROBLEM. Is there a Mexican or Dominican committee on the fiscal crisis in Puerto Rico? Highly doubtful. In reality, they see us as opportunity for citizenship more than "Latin American brothers and sisters" since its quite a common practice for them to find a skank and get those papers. As for solidarity... yes. but it can only extend so far. |

You miss the point again. The May Day demonstration was for obtaining amnesty for all illegal workers. They want to become legals and have the right to work at decent wages. This way they won't be simply "cheap labor" that will undercut the union card and legal workers in job opportunities.
It isn't a trade union issue of scabs that cross picket lines. That has nothing to do with granting amnesty to illegal workers. You wrote to the May day protest parade, and now you want to shift to trade union phenomena that has nothing to do with international solidarity with all workers as a principle. Each and every event must be judged on the basis of its concrete conditions, and not by some other grievances that you as a worker have in trade union circumstances.

I went to work also and told all my buds to do the same. Of course, most of Miami went to work and only a very small number of Latinos in Homestead, FL (south of Miami) stayed out.
I am for shipping most, if not all, illegals out. It is destroying this country, including PR. Of course, Eddie would rejoice at that since, in his heart, he is an anarchist who hates the USA that gives him wonderful liberties to trash it with. He sees the USA as a "useful idiot." He is still hoping on his idiotic Communism to save this world and take it into further darkness. I'm glad I continued to work and all around me, I saw tons of LEGAL Hispanics working. Ship these illegals out, now! Quote:
