Is it IQ? Is it a gene? Is it cuz speaking Spanish Caribbean style neutralizes the opportunities to make money?

First, you are all over the damn place. LOL!

I for one will never argue against many of the points in your argument, they have nothing to do with capitalism, more like human nature, which is why the socialist system never works.

If socialism was the great equalizer, what happened in the USSR? Why did China not dismantle Hong Kong?

Many of the points you make I agree with, the ignorance of people, both in the US and here. I especially agree that the US government's debt to foreign nations is extremely bad. A great book on the issue is Empire of Debt. The US can't continue to sustain that level of debt, and the Federal Reserve should have never even been put in place. It has created an artificial economy. Artificial economies don't allow the free markets to correct themselves in small doses. Which is why when the big correction hits, it will be felt around the world. In the 30s it was felt in the US only because we didn't have a global economy, like we do now.

Free market capitalism is the way to go and the US had it right in the beginning. If the gold standard would have been left in place, the government would not be in the mess it is in.

Free market economies allow for anyone who can dream to get ahead in life. I really have no pity for those who complain all day and do nothing. Socialism would never have gotten us the technology that we live with today.

And yes, we have the resources to do something about our health care, but not in the way many think. The government in charge of health care? LOL!

This is a serious question, if you like socialism so much, why not go to Cuba or Russia? I'm sure they will take you.

The thing is that in many of your arguments you rail against capitalism for problems that the government create. Government can help and should, rules need to be put in place and followed, such as in all areas of life in general. Without them there is chaos.

For example, and this is just one. Credit Card debt is a big problem, not just because credit card companies have given away too much credit, but because they then turn around and create reasons to jack up the interest rates on those cards. This creates a problem for the borrower when that person is trying to get out of that debt, how can he/she do that? They can't.

The US government in the 60s and 70s had regulations in place that hurt the little guy from getting a credit card, so in the 80s they did away with them. A bad move, because what they really needed was to keep those that kept the industry form abusing the consumer in place. Now they are needed more than ever but congress has been dragging its feet for decades.

There has been a bill floating around for years to deal with this, why hasn't your representative in congress done anything for you? The solution is that if voters took the time to be aware of what their representative votes for, and not vote for, while in congress the US would not be in the mess that it is in.

Any representative who has not addressed an issue such as the credit card problem should be voted out when their time is up. And tell them why you voted their asses out. But instead we ***** and moan, like always. We do nothing, and here in lies the problem.

The power of the voter in cases like this is so crucial. We have the power, but we don't use it. Don't blame capitalism for that.

Nelson says this folks:

The power of the voter in cases like this is so crucial. We have the power, but we don't use it. Don't blame capitalism for that.

The power of the voter? Right now the vast majority of voters want universal health care. Why haven't they gotten it? Because the real POWER is no longer in the average voter. It is in the corporations and the lobbyists.

You see I have a totally different philosophy than you Nelson. I don't believe that whole systems like the political system and the economic system spring out the way they do because individuals refuse to exercise their votes. There is a logic to the decadence you describe. But, you as all conservatives do, will blame individuals and never the people in positions of power for the problem. You say, vote them out. Lol. The truth is the average USA citizen either is apathetic as you say. WHY? Has it ever occurred to you that the power players have outmaneuvered the average citizen. And many still think that the Capitalist class are some good ole boy Country bumpkins who look out for their interests. It reminds me of Miranda's trailer park dwellers who are toothless and wave the flag high as they continue to languish in unemployment and don't connect the dots. The PEOPLE have not been in charge of making decisions in Washington DC for quite a while. And I think there is not much difference between the DEMONS or the REPUKES in Washington.

And sorry I am not some fascist Nelson. I don't throw people out of countries they were born to or in, simply because they don't agree with their governments' economic or political philosophies. I don't go for that myopic thinking. I never did. Though if the capitalist fat cats lose power and want to retake it after being ousted, I would make sure they stayed without power. I don't let the abusive types 'freedoms' they don't deserve. I am not naive.

To you it is all about human nature. So was slavery, and child labor and so on at some time. Doesn't make it right then, and it certainly doesn't make it right now. To me and any socialist worth their salt, capitalism is about and will always be about, the relationship one has between owners and non-owners, the relationship between the upper and ruling classes and the non-ruling classes and how the negotiate power relationships in history. It is inherently a class distinction society and it must have control of the labor of the many in order to expand and grow and reinvest, market and consume. That is what it is about. If it can't do that it can't perpetuate itself. And capitalism has to perpetuate itself. Or it dies.

Miranda here thinks that Puerto Ricans are used to getting something for nothing. Los BENEFICIOS de la estadidad. I am here to let Miranda and others know, that only the really IDIOTIC believe that a nation like the USA gives away federal monies without any self-interest involved. OUT of the goodness of their liberal ad conservative bleeding hearts---who feel for the poor and oppressed downtrodden INFERIOR mongrel race Caribbean masses. NOPE, I don't believe that for one nanosecond. NO! They give the 'beneficios' to pacify Puerto Rico cuz they know that the island is occupied by too many non-English speaking 'different' types and they need to keep them happy to control many things in that area of the world and keep their money and their interests going. When that area of the world is no longer of interest to them or they lose so much money and world power that they can't even subsidize their imperial needs all over the globe the end of the supposed gravy train will come and not even the statehooders with their Yankee Doodle pitiyanki garbage talk will suffice to quell the outrage and the panic and the dazed looks of confusion that will follow all the hoodwinked and dense in Puerto Rico. Guaranteed. Ask the "INDIANS" if the USA government was not speaking with forked tongue a long time ago when it comes to getting something for nothing. Aint nothing FREE with the USA feds. NOPE. If you pay late on your taxes you have to pay penalties, but if they made a mistake and they owe you money, they aint about to pay interest and fees. NO. Do you think a gov't like that one Miranda is giving away money for free cuz they like it? Or are they paying for something they NEED? YOU TELL ME MIRANDA.

There is always something they are getting out of it, if they were not, they would not put up the money in the first place. The "INDIANS" found that out about the good ole USA gov't a long time ago. Until the grass grows and the water flows is a bunch of lies. And another lie is to teach the Puerto Ricans the 'joys of democracy and fairness and justice and the American way.' I don't think so. SORRY.

In order to run a campaign nowadays you got to raise a lot of DOUGH. Serious DOUGH. The kind of dough that your average Joe Blow in the USA can never raise. That eliminates a lot of people. It sure does. And it is done on purpose. It is not the voter who is at fault. The voter has been led to believe naively and wrongly that their popular vote determines who gets to be in the White House, the Congress and the Judicial branch. Setting aside the 2000 vote with all the controversy involved....the truth is that the USA has become a corrupt plutocracy run by lobbyists and corporations who are in close relationships that are interdependent with all the people in DC making the big decisions. The voters are peripheral players and can be manipulated and even in some instances simply ignored in general. To think otherwise is foolish in today's political realities in the USA.

So many conservatives would be the first to flee the USA if it become third worldish and they can't make a living and Canada then flourishes and becomes a world power. Then they will switch loyalties to Canada and say they love that system cuz that system is the one who gave them a fat billfold. So, their accusations of 'go to Russia or Cuba' when I am a born and bred Boricua 100% on both sides is just another proof that their thinking is flawed and opportunistic. I stick to my ethnicity because it is my duty and my responsibility as a Puerto Rican. A thinking one. And whoever doesn't like it....too bad. To each thinking mind and know thyself....and be true to it. No matter how many want to exile you because you don't kowtow to those who screwed over your little island to begin with and don't fall for all those lies they threw over the years to make the Boricuas believe the USA government has their best interests at heart. No they don't. And so, since they don't. Why should I not criticize them everywhere on Earth? They did not do anything in Puerto Rico to merit loyalty. On the contrary all they have sown is dissent. The good kind. The kind they deserve in spades for their idiotic hipocrisy in stating they believe in freedom, independence, self-determination, free competition, and in a republican form of government yet hold colonies for over a century. They are a bunch of two-faced lying degenerates (the USA government) and aint gonna get either my respect or my confidence. EVER.

If you want to place your loyalties and respect with those lying sons of a gun who sell their souls to the highest bidder go ahead Nelson. I don't. Lol.

As far as I am concerned, they should have let us go our own way A LONG, LONG time ago. And since they did not. Que se chupen la critica por lo menos. POR LO MENOS. Por que los boricuas se han chupado sus guerritas inutiles por mucho tiempo ya.

The banks are predatory lifesucking vampires of the worst kind. And to think they should be paid back by consumers is heresy for me. Lol. They should all never pay back and let all the freeloading toads go under. All the money anyone makes should be communally pooled and given out according to need and to reasonable demands. Not out of control stupidities like so many do. No, I don't think being pro-capitalism is being a good Christian. If you were a good Christian you would hate capitalism as SATAN himself and fight it till your last breath. Lol. Literally. Hey, the Dead Sea Scroll scholars said the Essenes who Jesus of Nazareth came from had a code. You could not join their 'sect' unless you gave up all worldly possessions and took an oath to never allow wealth in a personal way to ever accumulate and create a separation between you and your fellow brother Essenes. All property had to be communal shared. Something that would be DEATH to your average Capitalist. So, if you are a Christian and still think being part of that thinking is ok. No. The Devil will be waiting for you on the other side.

Remember life is about balance. And anything that is done thinking of personal gain only is the root of all evil in life. And I have NO DOUBTS capitalistic thinking is the root of all evil. If people disagree alla ellos again.

BTW, all of you are welcome to comment. And be passionate about what you think and believe. This is just a message board. We are here to express ourselves and communicate. And hopefully have fun too!

Not all banks work in this fashion. I don't keep my money in the local banking system on the island. My bank has never charged me a dime for keeping my money. I get all the services free and sometimes my bank account goes down to zero. Try that with local banks.

There is a saying that life belongs to the slick. Many people are naive, here and in the states, and this is why Washington DC has stopped working for us.

If everyone did what I did, the banking system would change, because the banks following the current system would have to change in order to keep their customers. But as I have said, and I hope you get where I am going, people are naive, they are complacent and the politicians, as well as Wall Street, know this.

So... I don't worry about the banks charging me for keeping my money and I don't have to worry about many things that people do because I know there is a solution out there; all it takes is for me to take action.

I have passive income as well as earned income and the future looks even better. Why would I want a socialist agenda telling me where I should work and how much I am worth? Because my neighbor has dog-crap for brains?

People do have the power, you can vote. The first thing is to find out who your senator and representatives are. Find out what they are doing, and not doing, for you. Vote them out and send them a message. This isn't so hard. Candidates need a lot of money because they know that the couch potatoes are easily swayed by 3-second sound bites.

If people stopped paying attention to sound bites and looked up the records of the individuals they are voting into power, things would change very quickly. I believe the power is in the hands of the citizens.

The reason we don't have a better health care system is because... you are going to love this... people keep voting for the same individuals who keep voting it down! So why all the complaints? It is you, people, who are the problem!

For a second there I actually thought Joe Lieberman was going to be sent packing, yet here he is, won as an independent, after rightly losing the democratic candidacy for the senate, and now is running for president.

Waking up in the morning and doing the same thing you always do? Then don't expect to get rich anytime soon. Vote for the same crap, expect the same crap.

I have made plenty of mistakes in my past and I am still rectifying some of those mistakes. I used to blame the system for them. Now I blame my fellow, naive, complacent citizen.

El ego no permite exito total

Anecdotally, it is evident that the system that offers the greatest material or social benefits to its people at this time in human history is capitalism, in spite of it’s many failures. This is not an unqualified endorsement of this system rather it is a view that most reasonable people reach when there is an honest comparison of where capitalistic societies are, in terms of measurable progress, as contrasted to all other non-capitalistic societies. It is a fact that people are desperately trying to enter capitalistic societies, especially the US, from every corner of the globe seeking a better life. This is the reason why we have a problem with the undocumented in the US. That being said, the fundamental problem with capitalism, or any system, is the inherent failure of mankind to maintain distance from individual desires, ego, selfishness, and selfcenteredness. No matter how altruistic mankind attempts to be, the other failures of man, invariably, manifest themselves and derail good intentions. This can be seen in every country and throughout history. Indeed, from a global perspective, it is impossible for mankind to ever address it’s problems to the satisfaction of the masses. History has proven this.

No Sonambulo, the reason the starving masses come to the USA is the same that many people flocked to Rome in its heydey, to Cairo and to the Nile and to the Great Pharaohs of Egypt in the times of Moses, to Byzantium in its glory and so on and so on. It is not about the superior system, it is about who has the biggest resources, the biggest guns and military prowess and who is the most ruthless in pursuit of power in their historical time period. You are led to believe the power and the wealth are gained out of a superior 'culture' or 'intellect' or whatever. The Native Americans were tribal and did not understand the concepts introduced by the Europeans later on. Were the Europeans morally superior? Just reading Bartolome de las Casas is enough to realize MORALITY had little to do with it. It is like that movie from "The Mission" stated when they killed a highly productive mission above the falls and killed all the priests and many Indians in Paraguay---because it threatened the ability of the slavetraders to exploit free indian labor that they needed on their 'plantations'. The United States of America took over the land not by being nicey nice and good moral people with enormous creativity and goodness. NO. They got the land after removing or genociding a lot of people. Then they brought in the slaves from Africa to work for free for nearly two hundred years and made the USA a producer of cotton, sugar, indigo, rice, etc. etc. The robber barons of industry then fought a civil war to keep the union not because they loved the idea of freedom for the lowly slaves, but because there was an internal power struggle between the rural landowners from the South's huge plantations with their enormous agricultural wealth, and the need for the development of industry in which the agricultural stronghold was impeding the 'progress' of the USA's Robber Barons. I don't say this only. Many historians of great repute back this and there is a lot of historical evidence to indicate this was the big 'dispute' about the USA's bloody Civil War that ended in 1865.

The USA keeps its position all over the world through less than moral means. Through huge military expenditures, embargos, blocks, manipulations, irregular activities of all kinds. But since the public is kept in the dark about all these less than regular activities, you don't find out the BLOWBACK consequences until something dramatic and crisis driven happens. Such as the events of 9/11. People come here because the USA is one of the few nations that have a lot of resources. Why do they have the resources? Because they are damn ruthless in their pursuit of being the top dog in the world. Not because the USA is better morally, creatively or spiritually than the next human nation state. Maybe I see it that way very clearly not only because of what they did with Puerto Rico and its inherently hipocritical lack of fairness with us, but because I studied Ancient Empires in detail....and see their decline as well. The bottom line is when you interfere too much, and you want too much control, and you are ruthless in many ways in pursuit of the best resources on Earth and you don't care who you have to 'knock off' to get it....eventually it all comes back on you. If you are a Buddhist....it is Karmic. In regular layman's language---it is all about the chickens coming home to roost. You are ruthless and manipulative and lack humanity and respect in your dealings with others---no matter how long it takes to come back in spades....it does. If not now, later.

What is interesting is that people only change when they have no other choice. It is either change or perish for many. It is more logical to take preventative measures. But, most human societies that are Empires ALWAYS fail to take the preventative measures. It is always HUBRIS that does them in. Did you see Sonambulo that part in that movie? "The Devil's Advocate"? I think Al Pacino tells Keanu Reeves at the end that what always works to condemn the ones who think themselves finally free from Satan's clutches is the sin of "Vanity". It is vain to believe that the USA (that only represents 6% of the entire planet) is in the position it is in, because of a separate and special humanity or privelege. Or that capitalism is the best system and produces the best results. Capitalism is not nationalistic. It is international and systemic. And it MUST invade and expand and try to control many places in order to survive. It is exclusive and priveledged. It is not inclusive, and it is not humble and it is not rooted in a government for the people and by the people. No. That is the root of the problem in the USA. The constitution was set up to have a government run by the people and for the people and be accountable to the people. But the system of capitalism is about keeping the majority of the people both domestically and non-domestically without the ability to dictate economic policies. Capitalism can't allow all of the workers to dictate economics....they can't. They will die. So a system of government that is based on a highly communistic concept of inclusiveness, has to be subverted to keep the Capitalism part going. And in all ancient societies in the past what killed their great civilizations were inherent contradictions in their own system Sonambulo. Who is winning? The people who toil and pay taxes in this USA? The little guy? Or the one percent who are millionaires? Who do you think is running Washington right now?

I don't believe this system is meant to last forever....Because the only systems that last are the ones that remain in balance and don't outstrip their resources and don't want or need to expand beyond their abilities to survive. Instead they remain in a system that is very similar to ecology's 'recycle' they don't keep consuming without taking into account putting back and taking care of its most precious of all resources....it's people.....many ancient ones in the past could not do that, they had to enslave, exploit, and invade and conquer and dictate from afar, and consume and take away the resources of others and not give anything back. THEY THOUGHT THEY HAD TO DO IT FOR THE GOOD OF THEIR OWN AMBITIONS THAT WERE FILLED WITH HUBRIS. The ancient and failed ones of the past all consistently did that and refused to change when pressured. So far this one of the USA is outstripping its resources and is over reaching its boundaries. And if continues to try to do that.....it will go the same way as all the other great civilizations of the Ancient World did. It will implode and explode...from rot from within and be devoured by the crows of opportunity mainly composed by the ones they mocked so badly as 'losers' before they died. The Barbarians are at the Gates Sonambulo. They arrived a few years ago....and don't think those Barbarians came out of the blue and were not involved in the doings of the Empire before they arrived. Only the naive and ahistorical would say such a thing.

Only the seriously uninformed would think Al Quada "The Base" was unknown to the CIA before 9/11. John Walker Lind comes to mind. Why was George Tenet (ex-director of the CIA), educated and had a background in "Energy Policy"? Why was he an expert on getting 'energy'? If one digs and digs and studies and studies....one finds extremely interesting information. The USA has a fossil fuel problem. They consume a huge amount of the world's fossil fuels. None of which are renewable and recyclable, which means once it is gone...it is gone. No more. Those fuels have made many people in the political arena of the USA very very rich and powerful. Arbusto industries comes to mind. Papa Bush's daddy Prescott Bush was a banker who sent Bush Sr to Texas to make his fortune in oil....and make sure the Bushes kept their 'cash cow' flowing in. Thus, Ken DeLay of Enron was also into 'energy policy'. It is interesting how many of these guys all are into 'energy policy' and somehow the Middle East and its 'issues' wind up going bananas on the USA? It is all very interesting. Many just want to say---they hate us. We are the greatest, the richest, the best, the brightest on Earth and that is why they attack us. It has nothing to do with our government doing weird deals for many decades in the most strange ways over there in Afghanistan, and in Saudi Arabia, and in Iraq and in Syria and in Lebanon, and in Libya and in etc. etc. etc. All that is just sheer coincidence. Yes, only the ahistorical and the naive believe all those spoon fed doctored explanations for all the crap that has come down the pike in the last 5 to 6 years. Sure....dream on...dream away....

BTW Miranda, I think Sonambulo and Nelson and RPR might be tired of the oneliners and the insults....Lol. I hope all you gentlemen continue to debate....I can't remain....I got to go...

Nelson said and revealed he has no clue about class problems when he said:

And who exactly is this ruling class? Let me see... it can't be the founders of Yahoo! or Google, even though they are now worth billions. And they are worth billions because they live in a free capitalistic society. So who is this ruling class?

Nelson, don't you know that Steve Jobs the creator of Apple Computers and now the dude launching the "iPhone" phenomenon gives himself an annual salary of $1 a year? Why? Because according to Steve Jobs he is already richer than Midas and doesn't need the money. He because he owns intellectual property rights has made more than a lot of average workers some of it equivalent to the lifetime work and productivity of thousands of people. Do you really think a single human being has a right to control the equivalent of thousands of lifetimes of labor of other people? Even they know their 'wealth' is totally out of porportion to what they actually produce. HUMANS innovate. They always have. Not because capitalism and private intellectual property is the best thing since sliced bread happens. No. But because human beings who are creative LOVE IT AND LIVE FOR IT. Lol. And all of us benefit. What persecutes us is the keeping of enormous wealth in such small hands. Wealth in truth is meant to flow and to serve people and not have people serve enormous wealth. People and their needs should always be more important than a small tiny percentage of humanity controlling huge percentages of the available resources and wealth. It is a recipe for disaster. The more people are allowed to work and then pool their resources together for the benefit of EVERYBODY, the better the civilization gets. Steve Jobs doesn't need more of what he already has in overabundance, now he wants his 'workers' to get a lot more of it. Eventually if every billionaire decided to pool all their resources and share it with EVERY SINGLE PERSON IN NEED ON PLANET EARTH....you won't have too many crisis in the world. But as the ancient saying says....nothing corrupts as much as power. And it is the power that enormous wealth brings that is so hard to give up for individuals. It is not the money per se for many. It is the POWER that comes with it that is so difficult to conquer.

What is the base of the wealth of google and Steve Jobs? The consumer. Who are the consumers? Billionaires? Billionaires are very very tiny minority in the world. Try selling iphones to billionaires only. Will you make a profit? No. They sell it to the masses. Who are the masses? Millions of people with average and below average salaries. So again, the Jobs dudes are viable because they depend on the masses to spend on their product. The customer is always right---but what I am saying is that the average worker is always right. They are the reason why innovation exists and is used. Not the other way around. The masses have always been the ones creating the wealth. Not the individuals who are billionaires marketing their innovations to the masses. Wealth almost always without exception is group based. Mass based. It has to be. That is why in the USA out of 300 million people you might have one or two percent who are millionaires. If everyone were millionaires who would the millionaires have to live off of? It is a pyramid. And part of the reason why so many don't realize how to cope with reality is that they live with the fantasy that they too might be the one percent one day. So do all the lotto ticket buyers out there. That is part of the fantasy of Capitalism as well.

Do you think a single individual who might be worth BILLIONS of bucks really earned all that wealth? Are deserving of all that wealth? After all there are only twenty four hours in a day and at least 8 hours of it should be spent sleeping. So, how can one single mortal and fragile human being have the right to control BILLIONS of dollars and then another human being is allowed to die because some HMO thinks it is too costly to approve a needed surgery on him? How does that sound to you. It might be interesting but again you should see Jamie Johnson's documentary of "Born Rich" and "The One Percent"---Jamie Johnson himself is born rich and was the one from the Johnson and Johnson fortune. He talks to the rich and some of them admit they don't really think they have a right to the wealth in a human sense, but they like the freedom that comes from enormous wealth and feel they have to preserve their social and economic class power. But, deep inside some of them (the more intelligent btw) admit they really think it is a little absurd. If they know it is absurd, do you think I will take your idea of what enormous wealth signifies seriously? I think if you have never considered who rules this society and who is in charge of making laws and making power plays---then forget about it. You got to go and find out what it is all about. Adam Smith and then keep going all the way down the line.....study them all. Then say "There are no ruling classes at play here." The ruling classes certainly know who they are. LOL! Just ask Jamie Johnson.
