It almost seems like it would take an act of "god" for Puerto Rico to be free. It would take for the Empire to crumble and thats not happening anytime soon. And then the statehooders would lobby to be a colony of China or whatever world power there would be.

Puerto Rico will be free RPR. Meanwhile there are a few things the Columbians do well. Dance and write. They have Gabriel Garcia Marquez and these 'colorful' dancers that I love.

I think the older a Puerto Rican gets the more cynical they become about independence. I have observed that about us. Salsa is awesome and here in FL ,they dance it best in the states. Just my opinion. However, let me broaden your horizons to what the youngins are listening to. I promise its not rap lol.

Yes, you might be right! But in the long run its not about if we are cynical or not. The way things look, we may not have a choice in the matter. Its sad that despite being told for 109 years that we DO have a choice and the only thing is to vote for it, we will soon find out that this is not how REAL POLITIKS WORKS. Its a question of NATIONAL INTERESTS, not for us, but for the Gringos.

I think the solution to all of this is a middle ground status, only temporarily. Its been the way of a lot of colonies have done it. Yes there will be an exodus of about a million Ricans, but that's to be expected. We can absorb that loss. Didn't the U.S loose 80.000 loyalists to Canada and other places in the British Empire when the U.S. was born? We can replenish that loss with a government sponsored party, and BINGO, 9 months later they'll be 100,000 new Ricans!

Strange as it seems, as the things are going, its not us with the status problem, its "the others", the U.S. We know what we want. Spanish speaking Statehood, more welfare and to be taken care of for eternity. How to reconcile that with what is happening in the U.S with the immigrant question, I don't know.

However, a lot of Ricans are getting the message and leaving. The problem with this is, we might get stuck with a majority of illiterates, welfare loosers and Domincan immigrants who don't really like us.

Hey Suki - Puerto Rico may be free one day; but our people are another question. I envision a whole bunch of Boricuas jumping on the first plane to Orlando, Newark, New York, Miami, Los Angeles, Chicago and many other places far and in between when that happens.

Maybe they'll be listening to this on their MP3 players that they bought in Plaza Las Americas.

Like Dorothy said in the Wizard of Oz (many Puerto Ricans who leave the island will come back):

"There is no place like HOME." And Puerto Ricans might get used to the snow and the coats and the boring people that are not Puerto Rican. LOL. But they will gravitate towards the island in some way. No matter what the status is.

I still miss the beach. And I know it sounds biased--but I don't care. The best men I have ever met in my life have been Puerto Rican men. Hands down. The smartest, the handsomest, the most passionate, the most intelligent, the most interesting and the most beautiful have been the Boricua MEN. And that is my FINAL OPINION.

Suki
