Sorry to say but no one is saying if this problem moving Puerto Rico to a free country. So, you think this is moving PR to a free PR or not?

Mike:

Don't allow yourself to fall in the trap of the ultraconservative right. They see evrything as intended to cause a revolution and impose comunism. In fact, you will have noticed that right here on PR.com every discussion about freedom is deliberately mingled with comunism.

In my opinion, there are two separate and distinct things happenning in PR. In the case of Vieques, although some people are bent on making it a PIP engineered issue, the truth is that if you go to Vieques and meet with the groups that are protesting the "Marinas" presence there, they are of a very broad spectrum of Puerto Rican society and Politics. Religious groups, Catholic and Protestant, Environmental Groups ( from PR and abroad) and people from all three political parties- PNP, PPD and PIP, are united in their desire that Vieques and the People of Vieques be spared the environmental abuses of the US Navy. You will hear from many who fear the loss of the US's economic support, that the movement in Vieques has been adulterized and blown out of proportion by the leaders of the left. It is simply not true. It is a group of US homeowners on Vieques that spearheaded the movement, this time around. You see, unlike us Puerto Ricans, North Americans are not afraid of fighting for what is morally, politically and socially correct. The North Americans are not afraid to confront the US Government and state unequivocally, "You are harming the land and consequently harming the people".

Are Puerto Ricans thinking more about the Island's relationship with the US as a result of what they've learned throughout this Vieques mess? I believe that they are. But secondly, I also believe that slowly but surely they are understanding that Uncle Sam does not have our best interest in mind. While the Island itself may be treasured real estate to the US, we the people are viewed as a huge inconvenience.

As far as inching closer to independence is concerned, consider that the psychology of Puerto Ricans as a people needs to evolve sufficiently to understand how we have been affected by 500 years of dependance. It will take another 100 years before our people feel psychologically empowered to self-governance.

I think you right but I still believe this is moivng our people to a free PR. A country of our own. But you know, I am very happy today. Why? Because the PPD is going to win big time in PR. Why would this make me happy. Becasue as long as the PPD win the more time our people have to wake up and vote for a free PR. The PNP has lie to our people to many tine and this time was the last time. If you say no to the Marrines you say no. Thanks PNP.
