Before I begin I like to say that is up to our people to vote what they want. But we all know to well that if statehood get to close someday that those the believe in the arm strugle would begin to use the weapons because for them there is nothing to lose now. I beive the even those in PID and some in the PPD might just do the same. I hope this done happen but we all know thee is a possiblity. We mus rember something.
In the old days before the vote came to be it was those who took arms that free there country. US is a good example of this. When US fought against Britian most of the American did not want to fight. They wanted to be part of England to but it took the 10% or the 2% to take up arms to free US from England and this is how many Spanish country did it to against Spain. But now with the vote all it does is divide people. This is why I hope the when our people vote that they would take there time and make the right choice.

When you write about this pleas be open minded. I love to hear from all sides. From the PNP, PIP, PPD, and even from our Mexican brothers.

Mike:
There is a big difference between 1776 and 2000. How many countries today came about by armed struggle? East Timor came about through the voting box, Slovakia, Estonia, Lithuania, Ukraine, Palau, Namibia, Kazakstan, etc. all the same.
The only country I can think of that actually took up arms to free itself is: Eritrea. Even in Eritrea, Bosnia, Croatia, Slovenia, they had a referendum before they declared independence.
Like you said, who is to say that the pro-commonwealth, or statehood party wouldn't take up arms if they lost. Then you would end up with a civil war with thousands of innocent people dead. Is anyones political ambitions worth this?

You right but you know it could happen. I don't want to see this happen no more than you do but we need to talk about it for the good of our people. If we turn our back on this then we are turning our back on PR. I hope more of us talk about this. Is good for everyone. We all love Puerto Rico so lets hope for a good future for her in the coming elections.

No.. I do not think that Puerto Rico's statehood iniciative will bring about an armed struggle.

Armed struggle is passee.. today there are other avenues to express your discontent.

I think what will happen is those who favor independence will bring up the case in international courts and the United Nations.

But what ever the people of Puerto Rico decide (even statehood ... God forbid!) We US Latinos should stand in solidarity with them and support them in any way we can...

Poncho I agree with you. There will be no armed struggle. However the reality is that if or when we become a state independistas will have the same option as all US citizens do. Leave. They cannot bring this to the UN and the international community because they have tried and failed in the past. The response is always the same. You are part of the US. This is an internal US matter. Bring it to your own. Not to us.

I also agree that if P.R. does become a state we should ALL support that. Not only latinos as you put it.
