Why Puerto Ricans are being vastly recognized for their performance in Merengue music ? Why are they outselling the originators of Merengue Music ?

What is the diference between Puerto Rican Merengue and Dominican Merengue ? Is it the words used ? It seems to me that the Puerto Rican Merengue is more like a Bomba Merengue and sometimes a Plena Merengue. I also noticed the words of the PR Meregue make more sence o is directed toward love instead of double meaning sexual expressions. What is really the diference ? Why we have so many Puerto Rican groups that play the such music ?

Thumbs up DANCE....dance......DANCE!!!!!!

Hi Conciencia!

I am not exactly sure of what the difference is between the two, but I know I enjoy dancing merengue a whole lot!

In fact I will be going this Friday to dance Salsa/Merengue at a club with a new Puerto Rican hombre that I just recently met. I am going to see if he knows the difference!

La contestacion a tu pregunta

Conciencia,

????

Its very simple ... the same way that "salsa monga" has been outselling salsa buena, and the same way PR merengue is outselling Dominican is because the artists are "light skinned papi chulos" that are very marketable.

The way that salsa lost its african element to the mass media will probably happen to merengue as well. Personally, I dont listen to merengue. I'm stricly ol'skool salsa. But reading these posts leads one to believe that merengue is going the same route that salsa.

WATERED DOWN!
