Thank you. I am not an ignorant or stupid person...and I did not like that he implied that.

Dorcas,
ELA was the brainchild of don Luis Munoz Marin, the first governor elected by the
people of Puerto Rico,he was also a master
politician who sold the idea of ELA to the
people,as to who decided I would have to
say both since nothing like that could happen
without congressional approval.
Lenny,
If you read the constitution of Pennsylvania
the term commonwealth and state are both
used, being a commonwealth does not give Pa.
any special status or right that a state
doesnt have.

D and I:

From the PR history books I have read the "Commonwealth" concept for PR was created around 1950 by Luis Munoz Marin, the first elected governor of PR. He derived the idea from the commonwealths in the United Kingdom such as Canada and Australia. However, PR's form of commonwealth developed very differently than those in the United Kingdom.

Marin was an "independista" but realized PR was economically poor. That the majority of the people would suffer hunger and malnutritution without US aid. In addtition he realized the US military would not let PR become independent. His commonwealth concept was meant to maintain US ties while granting PR the most autonomy possible.

Your public library should have books on the history of PR. Some are fairly short, an easy read.

Jorge

Thank-you for the answers. Of Puerto Rican History unfortunately there's very little info. available. I'm trying to get to the root of this "embrollo" to make my own judgement. I also like to know where the Parties stands with abortion, education, inmigration and employment. What are their views at this moment???. I like to know is there any spanish forum available. I feel better communicating en mi Lengua.

Bori331,

"Don't waste your time with this fool he always misquotes what anyone says in this forum, I know what you meant."

You have to be kidding me, you would have the gull to say that I mis-quote anyone; you the one that does not finish reading anything and jumps to insults. You know you are not worth the time.
Italia,

You have truly gained a good ally, "NOT". You say that where do I come off saying that you are arrogant well let me see you make assumtions for a true minority which you know nothing about and you then talk like you know what you are talking about. People here are not the majority and the people that may have cheated on you and showed you very little what Puerto Ricans are about are nothing but the minority. That is where I get my conclusion. I never stated that you was stupid! What I meant with my last

"I do not have to mention his name he knows who he is, but one thing is for sure people who speak like you are the ones that leave a bad impression on people who have spent over 100 years under a colonial status and 50 years of a pretended commonwealth status."

I was referring to a comment that you made answering to a post from "El Jibaro", where you spoke very poorly about all Puerto Ricans merely because you have had a bad experience with a few bad ones. Concerning the 100 yrs of colonial status and 50 years of supposed commonwealth status, that is something that you will need to look up. By the way I was not comparing you to him I was simply agreeing with a post that was written long ago about how some americans pass judgement so quickly.
