Oh my, Oh my. I came to this forum last week and had created many "friends" in a short time. I love these post, especially the statehood ones. I noticed that the autonomistas are quiet. Hmm, I have feeling that the PPD knows their stuff. There is many ways to test the validity of an issue, and one is what I call "Shaking the tree". In the short period in this forum I learned that the statehood is really a dream. Hey, don't take me wrong, I voted for it in the 1994 plebisito. Is a dream because I know that the US goverment has turned the table around and has extremely taken a look at the INDEPENDENCE for PR. The INDEPENDENCE is a process that will take a decade, starting with the autonomia. Basically, the only valid definitions for PR are commonwealth or independence. The statehood clique are a surpass genus. And on top of that is an economically non-sense venture. I hope my friends estadistas don't take me wrong, I just wish that they wake up, and take a close look of not what the Puertoricans wants, just look of what the US government want. This is a two faced coin were we had failed to look both sides. So, I will be here for a while, I brought my camping gear with me, get use to.

Nacionalista,
If what you're saying is true, I, as a statehooder would have no problem in accepting that truth. And if the US is really wanting us to become independent, well, there's nothing we can do about it. If those are US plans towards Puerto Rico, then I suppose they will have to work really hard towards shifting public opinion in favor of independence, becuase Puerto Rico will never move for independence on its own but unless we are pushed towards it. The US also knows that cutting us loose, could create massive exodus of American citizens to heavily Hispanic populated states. That event would definitely represent additional economic, social and political burdens to those states. However, "no debemos cruzar el puente, sin llegar al rio". Let's see what happens and when that time comes,we will react to the moment. Meanwhile, "tu bailas con la tuya y yo bailo con la mia". I am not afraid of being told the truth whatever that truth might be unlike many populares and independentistas, but that doesn't mean I would jump to conclusions now, wihtout giving myself the opportunity first. It reminds me of that chartbuster hit of Whitney Houston : "...if I failed, if I succeed, at least I live as I believe..." One other thing, I don't remember we voted in 1994 for a plebiscite, and I doubt seriously that you voted for statehood even if you say it time and time again. Take care and have a nice day. |
