Puerto Rico in my opinion has what it takes to be a free country. The problem is that we have lived in the shadow of great nations and for that people believe that we can not prosper or make anyhting out of ourselves with out some type of aid. I on the other hand have great faith in my people. With a little determination and use of our resources and our minds nothing is unattainable. In order to reach our goal of freedom, we dont need any help from the Americans , we just need the support of our people. Que viva Puerto Rico Libre

Question

I like to ask anyone how many states would lose a congressman or I think is a senator.
Anyone knows? This is if PR becomes a state.
Also, 4 x by 4 million PR =?

Taina,

You are correct, we can do it alone! We also have the resources and I read that Puerto Rico has potential for both land & offshore petroleum ! Let's do it mi gente there are smaller nations that are prosperous. What makes us any different??

Bori331, TainaChulita, Mike,

Like I have said before my concerns are not that we may not have the resources nor the ability, yet it has shown time after time we have no leadership what so ever to drive us to that so elusive destiny that we all wish for. Too much coruption has stormed all parties and that is nothing more than pure fact what will keep any individual in Puerto Rico from doing what was done in Peru (Fujimora) I believe is his name. What will maintain that balance would be my only question. Ruben I personally do not trust Fernando Martin is a proven puppet and we all know the puppeteer. Now days we as the people of Puerto Rico are just with a leader and until one steps up to the challenge and with this I mean a real leader I will vote to keep Puerto Rico the way it is right now, what I would like changed is for us to gain a rightful voice in congress.

It is true , what we really need is leadership. A lot of our politicians have proved to be puppets , the most disgusting of all is Rosello. He claims to have our interests at heart but in reality he is on the American's side. What we also need to understand is that the revolution is also within. There are alot of Puerto Ricans that believe that all their problems would be solved if Puerto Rico became a state. They think that with the US on their side there will be more jobs and more benefits. This may be true but they seem to forget that everything comes with a price. Take our current staus of commonwealth , we have certain benefits to this status but they have taken control of Vieques in return for these benefits. People need to open their eyes and realize this... STATEHOOD IS NOT THE SOLUTION !!!! I believe that this thought or anything related to such would be detrimental to our island. To be blunt , we have to get on our own feet and out of the US' shadow in order to truly succeed in making Puerto Rico a better place.

Thumbs up

Taina:

Very well put! That is the problem with many Puerto Rican's today. Many seem to have an inferiority complex and feel they cannot survive without the U.S which is not true ! We as a people have come a long way and are far too educated to keep depending on th U.S !
