The only difficulty with taking it to the American people is that the Puerto Rican issue is not "marketable" with the Americans. Of course, Vieques and all the support and attention it is receiving from the entire world, as well as groups, individuals, and organizations in the U.S. too, may be just the thing to bring "marketability" to the entire issue of Puerto Rico, and if it does then there is some hope that all the problems will be addressed. The Media in the U.S. is finding it harder and harder each and every day to continue suppressing news of P.R. issues. And the greed of that Media for profit maximumization as the bottom line of news coverage is beginning to drive it to the latest in coverage of the P.R. issue. Unfortunately, this is the only way the American people can receive info as to what is going on there, and perhaps will do something to help the Puerto Rican people. Regards, EddieR #1 |

I am not disputing whether or not the native Hawaiians want thier independence. It is understandable being that they had no choice in the decision to make Hawaii a state; Hawaii was annexed. Naturally anyone would want their independence if it was robbed from them. The difference between Hawaii and P.R. is that we have a choice. What I said in my previous response was merely to illustrate to Mike Cordero how illogical his comments were. I used Hawaii as an example because they still have their own language, alphabet and traditions. Meaning that if P.R. would become a state, we would still have our language and culture. What you were talking about had nothing to do with what I had written. |

Juan, that may not be true either,
as a condition to being admitted into the union Louisiana was forced to amend its constitution and make english its official language,of course people of Louisiana are free to speak any language they want, but the courts the government, and the schools are all in english, there is also a movement to make english the official language of the U.S.A. then what,we will loose our culture. |

It had a plebiscite and the Hawaiians voted to become a state. You are obviously ignorant of these facts, and you do not know also that the Hawaiians, (and I am referring to the full-blooded Hawaiians) regret to this day that they ever became a state of the United States. Wake up! Juan and learn the facts before you start throwing your posts in relation to Puerto Rico and the present status issue. You also don't seem to know that the Hawaiians have entered into solidarity with the Puerto Rican quest for independence, and they avow that they are sorry they ever became a member of the United States. This is on record, and the data is available that will warrant that they support by and large the movement for Independence by Puerto Ricans. They also I reiterate wish they could turn the clock back and vote to reject becoming a state of the United States. Learn the facts before you opine in these very sensitive issues concerning Puerto Rico. You are dealing with a People who have a soul and a culture that has been forged for centuries upon centuries, and longer that the United States ever came into existence. EddieR #1 |

The problem is the our people don't like to pay taxes. Also if 4% vote for freedom in RP and they don't get it this mean 160,000 could take up arms. 4%X4,000,000.00 = ?
This is another reason why US don't want PR. Do I have my numbers right? |

This is another reason. It cost to much.
Maybe it should go this way? Save billion of dollars right now! How? Just call your congresman and tell them to free Puerto Rico once and for all. A land taken by force has the right to be free not divided. |

This is for El_Criollo:
A similar question is why are many Puerto Ricans afraid of happiness and success? Perhaps because we are used to failure and misery? ------------------ desde_el_Jurutungo_de_Bairoa Many other Puerto Ricans and I are not used to failure and misery. You making look like the whole nation of PR are misery people. You forgot the we got this from the Spanish Crown. Look at our other brother nations. Example, when people came to this country they came with money and the power was from below not from the top. In our Spanish ways, the poor came and left taking gold. PR has been with US now for a 100yr and is changing this way of life style. So don't blame PR blames the Spanish history. With this, our people soon will open there eyes and will vote for freedom to our true nation, Puerto Rico. |
