What kind of light? Look my fellow American it is true that we had fought in war and we have gave other thing to USA but we still with the same recognition NONE because of this statehood. What about if we become FREE? Do you think that we will have any recognition? Or be able to demand instead of bending knees every time we go to congress to ask for anything.

This is a new millenium, and things are not as 30 years ago. Puerto Rico has a very intelligent and well educated young population. I don't think that the newest generation of educated Puerto Ricans will allow our Island to go to hell if we becomes a republic. Even as a republic, PR will still do business with the USA and will be unreasonable if they don't. Besides the USA, there are a huge group of countries in the United Nations, were PR will be part of the organization, to get the recognition it deserves. Many great long established democracies right now, are begging to have business with PR, but the USA don't allow us.

Absolutly we will be recognized if we were a Republic, we wont if we were a state. Yes, if being the 51st state, for that short time, we will be the first spanish speaking state, and the oldest history of all the USA states,..etc After being assimilated into the USA and be known as the USA only, not as Puerto Rico, we will not have our own Olympic delegate, and beautiful Miss Universal Contendants. If a Republic, we will be even more recognized, because then we will be able to join as much nations in as many organizations and sign whatever treaties and trade with whoever we want to. We will have to be recognized, because we will be an Independent nation that will be much wanted in the worlds good, and anyway, many countries like, DR, Venezuela, Argentina, Panama..etc, recognize us and support us in Independence and economic reform, because we can offer them our much wanted goods in the world. Except, Mexico seems not to recognize us for anything, because they are to busy getting dependent on the USA and the USA dont recognize us as anything, because they own us and they dont have to.

Hey Hombre-ciudad, check this out.
Puerto Rico is the longest time territory in the whole world taken away from Spain, that is not independent. Guam don't count even after being optained by the USA in 1898, because it belonged to Japan for a while right after that. Something is wrong with that.
