Did you hear about the FAA upgrade? Do you know who are they proposing to? Do you know if an ORD or if contracters have been selected? My company builds traffic control systems for all USA and the world (Northrop Grumman Co).

Yeah, I heard, or read, through Reuters in the web. Things like these get to us faster through regular media than through the Grapevine.

According to the reports the idea is to double the number of aircrafts in the air through use of satellites and related technologies.

From what I have seen, from the bottom up, it is kind of PIE IN THE SKY.

Let me put is this way, our current AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL was born from EXPERIENCE during the great Berlin AIRLIFT of 1948. That AIRLIFT brought about the INVENTION that through the years got implemented worldwide. LITTLE HAS CHANGED, except add in a few more computers and better radars and weather forecasting.

My guess, it will take ANOTHER WORLD CRISIS to bring in an ENTIRELY NEW SYSTEM.

In the MEANTIME, it is good to know that the company through which you earn a living will probably sell a couple of thousands of radar workstations to keep the current system from collapsing under increased loads ; that means you have a few years of SECURE work.
