Several months ago I wrote that Statehood was not a problem for Puerto Ricans, in fact Puerto Rico had a lot to gain monetarily $$$$$$$ and in "security".

The Dominicans who are invading the island know this too. Most don't give a damn if Puerto Ricans choose to become Caribbean Hawaiians or Navajo indians running a reservation with hotels and casinos. Most don't give a hoot it half of the population has to move out to Florida to make room for them, they know Statehood means welfare and more money to send back to Santo Domingo.

Statehood also means locking the island on to the federal Tit and nobody could do anything about it. That is why Statehooders note a sense of URGENCY for STATEHOOD NOW; they know that Puerto Ricans better hurry up because Americans were getting suspicious of this "Nationalism thing" which to many sounds like "Yanki Go Home."

Statehooders know that American tax payers MUST be kept in the dark about how much Puerto Rican statehood will cost them. Statehooders have to make sure that if the island economy caved in regular Americans don't know that they HAVE to take care of the island for eternity.

In fact with the LOTTO jackpot Americans MUST not know that we would have an added bonus, we would have more political power than 29 anglo states. You can't beat that for luck can you?

The problem with this Statehood shtick is that Americans are increasingly becoming paranoid. They are not sure if they want to continue with the multicultural agenda of the 70's when languages were tolerated. Many think that immigration has to stop, at least long enough to assimilate the Spanish speaking new comers, then open the doors slowly again.

THE QUESTION IS........

Are Americans willing to redistribute political power to a State that is growing more nationalistic by the day?

If what happened with the mayoral election in Los Angeles this week is an indication of things to come then Statehood may be in for trouble when ever it is presented in Congress.

What happened in LA?

The potential power of Hispanics in California began to make the "POWERS THAT BE" very nervious. They forged strange bed-fellows to stop Hispanic power. Whites and Blacks got together to defeat a Hispanic candidate. In fact Stanley Crouch, Daily News columnist warned about how Hispanic power was going to errode Black power and the best bet for Blacks was to join with Whites to arrest the growing menance.

Blacks know very well what Hispanics are caple of doing, take Miami for example.

THE QUESTIONS ARE......

1-Will Congress distribute 7 seats to accomodate an increasingly nationalistic Puerto Rico?
2-What state is willing to give up seats? I'm sure it won't be California or New York. How about Wyoming or Nebraska? Does any one want to take a guess?

As you see Statehooders might have THEORY on their side (Americans citizens without representation and equality under the U.S. Constitution) However politics is not run on theory alone REAL POLIRICS is the problem with Statehood.
