Hermano Nacionalista,
I see your point! Thanks for the indepth explanation. I always see Nationalsm as something that is within you. The civil war was fought under the belief of nationalism. Many lives were lost because men felt that they were right and they wanted to keep their separate identity, separate believes. This is my biggest fear. When I read the articles in these forum, I see a little of that stubbornness combine with a little of hatred, I am right and everyone else is wrong. The people have tunnel vision. It almost seems like the precivil war times. When men would gather and discuss the status of their beloved south and God help anyone that didn't agree with them. I would hate to see my brothers fight against each other for a political cause. Especially when at times I feel that we (Puerto Rican) are pawns to the American government and therefore playing into their hands. Why is it that to feel this natiobalism gives us such good feelings for ourselves and compatriots and at the same time we can't accept that we have the same political agenda however with a different title. World War 1 last as long as it did only because of the nationalism that men were fed. Nationalism is what holds or breaks a person. Many men would fight to the bitter end just to prove this.
Yes, hermano, Nationalism will remain with us
forever however what will be the price for us?
Tu hermana siempre,
Leticia
