I, unlike yourself, have never come across ardent statehooders who can be compared to as rats, roaches, snakes, etc. My experiences have been with stateside Puerto Ricans who generally do not see themselves as American as apple pie and are proud to be of Puerto Rican descent. I once came across a female student from Chicago who stated she was Puerto Rican. I asked her what she thought about the thr holy trinity... commonwealth, independence, and statehood. She right away blurted out, "Statehood." When I asked her for her reasoning, she said that "it would be better for Puerto Rico." Mind you, this person is about to receive an undergraduate degree with honors.

She then went on and on how she didn't know all that much about PR politics but that independence would be "bad". But to make a long story short, I do not see her as a roach, rat, or whatever. Just misguided. If she was to ever relocate to Puerto Rico and vote in the local elections, would be like so many other "misguided" voters. Not roaches. I think it all boils down to media coverage.

Working for a major cable news network, I find myself like the rest of the country bombarded with material on Israel, Israel, and in todays news and weather, Israel. I know that there are more powerful forces at work here when it comes to what we see and hear. My point is that Puerto Rico can sink into the sea and we in the states would not know about it cause front page headline news would be about how an Arab "farted" in front of an Israeli. Thank God for Univision... uh oh.. they were just purchased by GE who owns NBC. Hmmm...

What do you think?

¿Y qué de Barbosa y Rosselló entonces? ¿O McKlintock? No me hagas reir.

Tu no tienes "class".

my Puerto Rican history lessons

came from individuals such as:

Ismael Rivera
Raphy Leavitt
Larry Harlow
Ray Barretto
Roberto Roena
Bobby Valentin
Eddie Palmieri
Ismael Miranda
Ismael Quintana
Frankie Ruiz - wasted talent
Justo Betancourt
La Sonora Poncena

I can go on... :-) these characters are a little more lively than the ones you mentioned previously. I can go into detail of other individuals that I know of which include family members who were "blacklisted" years ago because of their views. In any case, I dont have to prove my heart to you or anyone just cause you feel your an "independentista de verdad." I suggest you seriously consider getting off the high horse for at least a while cause you facilitate the age old tactic of divide and conquer. Later, my friend> I have some pollo, arroz blanco con habichuelas blancas, ensalada, y tostones to attend to.
