I thank you for your questioning of my beliefs. In order to understand the position of the Nation Of Islam you have to understand the experience that the Black people of America have undergone since 1555. Being the victims of the worst enslavement conditions in the history of the world, the Black man and woman of America was left in a state of destitution. That is why during the Emancipation Proclamation of 1865, it was such a burden for the U.S. government to alleviate the issue of the 'freed slaves.' Yes, they were set free, physically. But, mental enslavement still existed. They were not taught to be independent, but dependent upon their slave masters. They carried the last name of the slave master. They spoke his language, knew his history. Had his religion. So, when they were told that they were free, where did they have to go? So from 1865 to 1955 existed a period in the United States of America called Jim Crow. This was a period where white people could violate the Constitutional Rights of Black people in America without fear of prosecution. Some summers as many as 5000 Black people would be lynched. Lyching was an intimidating method by white people to keep Black people subjugated in certain conditions. Out of undeserved suffering, comes redemption. And that redemption came from Allah in the Person of Master Fard Muhammad, whom we believe is the Messiah that the Christians have been waiting for, and the Mahdi that the Muslims have been waiting for. As it states in our Muslim Program under What We Believe. This man taught the Honorable Elijah Muhammad all of the teachings of the Nation Of Islam that you see before you today. With these teachings the Honorable Elijah Muhammad went forth, like I and a group of Puerto Rican brothers will be doing, into the cities of Black America and began teaching this doctrine. It states that interracial marriages SHOULD be prohibited. This is in reference with the white and black because when you look at the condition of the Black man and woman in America, the ratio of single Black mothers to single white mothers is disproportional. 60% of Black women are single mothers. Now, how does it look for a Black man to be married to a white woman, when he has 60% of his own Black women that are available for marriage. Interracial marriage in the Black community has damaged the Black family. In where we want land, you have to look at the fact that every group of people that have been done wrong have received reparations. The Native Americans, the Jews, the Japanese, the Chinese. Even the Italian-Americans, Irish-Americans, here in America have received some type of compensation except the Black man in America. So, yes, the government should give us land, which is point no. 4 of our program. But points no. 1 through 3 point out that we want freedom, justice, and equality. And if we can get freedom, justice, and equality, then we should separate. Just like you need to separate yourself from your love of America. I see that my Puerto Rican brothers and sisters are infected with the same slave mentality that exists in the minds of the Black people of America. Yes, I do plan to come down to Puerto Rico and the rest of Latin America with these teachings. I and an entire group of other Puerto Ricans in the Nation Of Islam. We are mobilizing right now. So just watch as we set out to deliver the 170 million plus people to the Lamb of God, the Honorable Elijah Muhammad. The Christ in the Bible that you think is coming from the sky is already here. But, look in the last book of the last testament, at the last few scriptures which is the Book of Malachi. Nonetheless, I remember you and Manuel pointed out in one of Minister Farrakhan's lectures that he said that while we are looking up in the sky for a heaven that does not exist the white man is building his heaven here on Earth. To understand this issue of having our own independent government you have to see how the Nation Of Islam is structured. The mosques and study groups are set up to be self-governing in the Nation Of Islam. We have a Minister, who heads all the operations of the mosque, he or she also serves as the political, spiritual, and social leader. Underneath the minister, is the secretary. The secretary deals with the financial dealings of the mosque, charity,bills, business ventures. In absence of the minister he or she serves as the head of the mosque. Underneath the secretary you have a brother captain and a sister captain. They are responsible for the teaching and the training of the men and women in the mosque. Kind of like the managers. They make sure the Believers are following the tenants of Islam and specific instructions that are being carried out within the mosque. They deal with the distribution of the Nation Of Islam's products. For instance, the Final Call newspaper which is the main source of income for the Nation Of Islam. They make sure papers are distributed and monies are collected. So, the structure of the Nation Of Islam is set up so that we can govern ourselves. We believe in doing for self, meaning being economically independent. We also believe that each one of us should take up a trade that are relevant to 'Nation Building.' We have our own security agency, telecommunications, construction, farm land, restaurants, realty, banks. So, in essence we are like a Nation within a Nation. That is how it is structured. We do not have the right to control anyone, but we do have the right to give them the right to choose. Our brothers and sisters don't even have that in this white supremacist system that we know as the United States of America.
