"A walking tour through the stands of Hiram Bithorn Stadium just prior to the Expos hosting the Mets produced surprising results. On an island where tourism is the major industry, one couldn't help but notice the lack of tourists in the stands. Clearly, this 22-game mini-season of Expos home games is an event staged by Puerto Ricans, for Puerto Ricans."

I would like to see them just move the team to San Juan ALTOGETHER.

They're never going to sell out in Montreal, people don't care for baseball there as it is.

DC/Northern Virginia backed out.

There is nowhere else to go. At least the game will be embraced there. Besides, guys like Vidro, Cabrera, etc are native boricuas... they even said they'd rather play all the games there or in Montreal, but the 22 game schedule is a strain!

Check out what i found on ESPN.COM. Looks like Mexico wants in on the Expos.

ESPN.COM---
Viva Mexico?

Monterrey, Mexico's third largest city, is capital of the industrial state of Nuevo Leon.
Add the city of Monterrey, Mexico, to the list of places trying to lure the Expos for the 2004 season. Carlos Bremer, chief executive officer of the Value Grupo Financiero, led a group that submitted a bid to Major League Baseball on Aug. 1 hoping to host all of the team's 81 home games next year. The Expos, owned by the other 29 major league teams and struggling to stay afloat in Montreal, are playing 22 games in Puerto Rico this year. San Juan has offered to host the team's 81 home games next year. The Expos are also being sought by groups in Northern Virginia; Portland, Ore.; and Washington, D.C.

NEW YORK -- Add the city of Monterrey, Mexico, to the list of places trying to lure the Montreal Expos for the 2004 season.

Carlos Bremer, chief executive officer of the Value Grupo Financiero, led a group that submitted a bid to Major League Baseball on Friday hoping to host all of the team's 81 home games next year.

In 1999, San Diego and Colorado played the major league season opener before a sellout crowd of 27,104 at Monterrey. The Padres and New York Mets played a three-game series in the city in 1996.

There also were exhibition games in the city of nearly 3.5 million in 1991 and 1993.

Bremer and Monterrey mayor Felipe Cantu met with baseball officials Tom Ostertag and John McHale in New York on July 21. Discussions between the sides started before the All-Star break last month.

Jose Maiz also is part of the bid. He owns the Monterrey Sultans of the Mexican League and their stadium, Estadio Monterrey. The ballpark could be expanded to more than 30,000 next season, the group said.

Bob DuPuy, baseball's chief operating officer, has said baseball hopes to make a decision by the end of September on the future of the Expos, but team president Tony Tavares isn't sure the timetable will be met.

Expos players and their union are unlikely to approve having the team play home games in different sites next year.

Well, as we saw this year (2005) the Expos became the Washington Nationals.

However, I believe baseball will come to PR and also Mexico.

Should DR get her infrastructure together financially, baseball would definitely prosper there as well.

I wish there were pro sports teams in both PR and DR but most people cannot afford to support such a venture right now.
