An ignorant quote made by MARTY BURNS http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/200...oss/index.html

"Look on the bright side American hoops fans: At least Puerto Rico is a U.S. commonwealth.

That's about the only positive to be gleaned from Sunday's embarrassing loss in Athens, a game henceforth to be known in USA Basketball circles as the "PR Disaster."

Sure, we saw our perfect 50-0 record in Olympic play (while using NBA players) go up like flaming saganaki. But who knew our Caribbean cousins could hoop like that? Maybe we should forget this whole Dream Team thing and sign up Carlos Arroyo & Co. as our representatives for the 2008 Games. Or at least add them as the 51st state so we can raid their roster."

As a Puerto Rican citizen and a sports fan, I found this commentary OFFENSIVE. Why is it that the United States always feels compelled to express their arrogance in this manner? While I am a fan of both the NBA players AND those from my country (FIRST), I would NEVER stoop as low as Mr. Burns to make such an OUTRIGHT RACIST point as in this ridiculous editorial. Let them have their win for all its worth and move on- SANS the stupidity. This seems to be the only time "Americans" (U.S.'ers) seem to pay attention to us, when we HAVE SOMETHING THEY WANT.

The article did not seem offensive to me. I dont think he said anything with spite or racism.

Would you care as much if PR were to become a state (unlikely, but...) or if she WERE a state already at the time? For that matter, would the column have been written?
