Just for the record, I am from Anasco and I know my town's history very well. I love your article on my beautiful and historical town, but Anasco is probably the oldest of the Spanish settlements in Puerto Rico that dates back to the days of Christopher Columbus and Ponce de Leon. Don Luid de Anasco and his brother Don Pedro de Anasco [who went on to explore present day Colombia and died there in the hands of the Cacica La Gaitana] never l;ived in Anasco becasue there was no Anasco back then. A settlement named San German [el Viejo]was established on the banks of the Rio Grande de Anasco [Guaorabo]. Over the centuries it changed names once or twice until Don Jose de Santiago [back in the 1700s] who owned these lands named it after Don Luis de Anasco who was bequeathed those lands by the Spanish Crown back in the 16th Century. This is what I have found out after years of research and investigation.

If your mother is the Rosa Julia that I am thinking of, the one who lives in King's Court in the Condado, then I know her very well ever since I was a little kid. Tell her that Quinito, el hermano de Mayra Mendez wrote to you. Be well and send me a message.
