Cruisin w the Oldies - El Morro Castle - Old San Juan [06:09]
MindFlotsam.com. While on our way to a Carnival Caribbean cruise, Nancy and I visited the El Morrow Castle (AKA Castillo San Felipe del Morro ) in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico . This is a very old Spanish fort - construction began in 1539. It was constructed here in order to protect the entrance to San Juan Bay from bad folks from the sea. During World War II, the US Army added a big old concrete bunker (which can be seen in this video) in order to protect the entrance to San Juan Bay from completely DIFFERENT bad folks from the sea. (Apparently, over the ages, a lot of bad folks from the sea have been interested in getting into San Juan Bay.)
Cruisin w the Oldies - Old San Juan, Puerto Rico [06:44]
MindFlotsam.com Took a great cruise with friends on the Carnival Victory. The ship left out of San Juan, Puerto Rico. My wife and I arrived (from Michigan) one day early - before we hooked up with our friends on the ship - to wander aimlessly around Old San Juan... BTW, our ship left San Juan more than 10 hours late because of "propulsion problems". We didn't know it at the time, but this is the sister ship of the Carnival Triumph - the decidedly UN-triumphant (and poopy) ship recently left floating adrift in the Gulf of Mexico. (I think watching the floundering escapades of the Carnival Triumph is giving me PTSD! - or maybe PCSD [Post CRUISE Traumatic Stress Disorder]). Seriously; we had a great time and I would most definitely do it again (and maybe we will) because I see a good possibility of some "untriumphant" specials and sales coming up soon from Carnival.
