Puerto Rican Singer, Songwriter and Producer Tommy Torres

Grammy Award winning Puerto Rican singer, songwriter and producer Tommy Torres kicked off his 12 historias tour on home ground when performing some of the hits that made him famous – El abrigo, Vinito pal’ Corazon, Un poquito and Mar adentro – at San Juan’s Jose M. Agrelot Coliseum at the end of April. After telling the 12,000-strong crowd that it was great to return home, the star went on to perform Por un beso tuyo, Un dia mas, 11:11 and Imparable. The tour will include venues in Mexico, Argentina, Colombia and Chile, the United States and Spain.

Born in San Juan, Tommy Torres Carrasquillo showed his talent for music at a young age by learning to play the keyboard and violin and composing music while still in high school. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Berklee College of Music and worked for a time as a studio assistant at the Sony Music Studios in New York before moving to Miami in 1998.

His early success was as a songwriter, with pop group MDO recording his song No Puedo Olvidar in 1999, which hit #1 on the Billboard Hot Latin Tracks chart. Also in 1999, his song Llegar A Ti, recorded by Jaci Velasquez earned him an ASCAP Song of the Year Award, and also hit the #1 spot on the Billboard Hot Latin Tracks chart. Recorded by group Son By Four in 2001, his production of Cuando Seas Mia also made it to the top of the Billboard Hot Latin Tracks.

While continuing to produce other artists albums, many of which featured songs written by him, in June 2001 Tommy Torres released a self-titled album as a solo artist, which was nominated on Premios Lo Nuestro for best album by new artist. In 2004 a number of singles from his second album Estar de Moda No Está de Moda got extensive airplay in Puerto Rico and made their way into the Top 40 on the Billboard charts. Torres released the album Tarde o Temprano in 2008, which made its debut at #1 on the Puerto Rico sales charts, remaining there for four consecutive weeks. In February 2010, the talented Puerto Rican musician received the ASCAP Latin Music Awards Composer of the Year Award. His latest album, which he’ll be promoting on tour, was released in October 2012.
