Puerto Rico – A Top Ten Favorite
Since its inception in 1970, the Puerto Rico Tourism Company has been working tirelessly to promote Puerto Rico as a tourist destination and assisting local establishments in upgrading their services and facilities to meet the requirements of their international visitors. It seems that their advertising campaigns, quality tourist assistance and dedication to the development of tourism in Puerto Rico has paid off, as the was recently named amongst the top ten destinations in the world.
Yahoo, Yahoo News and Yahoo Travel announced the top ten destinations and cities according to various categories. Yahoo conducted a survey amongst its sites, where tourists could vote for their favorite destinations, and in doing so, the field of destinations was narrowed down to ten. The most popular tourist cities were Las Vegas, New York, Cancun (Mexico), San Diego, Paris, Honolulu, San Francisco, Chicago, Cabo San Lucas (Mexico) and San Juan (Puerto Rico). When it came to top cruise destinations in the world, Puerto Rico was named as the second favorite country.
Terestella Gonzalez-Denton, Executive Director of the Puerto Rico Tourism Company, expressed delight after the announcement was made, commenting: “This international recognition shows the quality of Puerto Rico as a tourism destination, with San Juan as one of the most popular cities of the world, and our ports as one of the favorite cruise destinations at an international level”. Gonzalez-Denton went on to say, “It’s a huge honor that all Puerto Ricans should be proud of, especially the tourism industry that has shown once again what we can achieve.”
It is hoped the international recognition given to Puerto Rico, through the top ten listings, will boost its tourism industry and the influx of international visitors in the coming year. With the survey outcome being determined by travelers, it has confirmed that the attention and hard work of the tourism industry has created a destination that is to the satisfaction of international travelers and the Puerto Rico Tourism Company will continue to improve and develop tourism to provide visitors with only the best of Puerto Rico.
