Ricky Martin Promoting Puerto Rico
Ricky Martin was born in San Juan on 24 December 1971, and has become a role model for many Puerto Ricans. His determination to make a success of himself in the international music industry has made him an icon for most of the music enthusiasts in the country. After selling more than sixty million albums and establishing the non-profit Ricky Martin Foundation, he has won the hearts of millions. He has become the face of Puerto Rican music, and it is only fitting that he is now getting involved in promoting his country of birth.
The well known singer is busy preparing for his new world tour that will kick off on 25 March 2011. Ricky Martin’s first appearance will be in San Juan, at the Jose M. Agrelot Colosseum, after which he will move on to a few cities in the United States, such as Miami and Orlando, and then to Montreal in Canada. Working with the Puerto Rican Government, Martin will be assisting in promoting Puerto Rico as a holiday destination during his tour. The tour will cover seventy cities, affording Puerto Rico the opportunity to develop interest during Martins’ “Musica, Alma, Sexo” tour. The plan of action is to have the tickets showcase the Puerto Rico Does It Better Campaign, and throughout the show images of Puerto Rico will be displayed, such as culinary delicacies that Puerto Rico has to offer, its magnificent beaches, picturesque landscapes and some of the country’s most popular attractions.
Asked about the tour and promoting Puerto Rico, Ricky Martin commented that he was proud to be a part of the campaign and that having his country on stage with him was a great honor. Jose Perez Riera, the Secretary of Economic Development and Commerce, commented: “By joining Ricky Martin’s world tour as a presenter, we can continue strengthening our ‘Puerto Rico lo hace mejor’ campaign on the international level presenting Puerto Rico as a synonym for quality.” Special events to promote Puerto Rico by displaying their attractions, educating the various sectors in regard to investment opportunities and the incentives for economic growth, will co-ordinate with the tour schedule.
