Julio Iglesias is widely acknowledged as one of the best selling artists and musicians in the world and most certainly the best selling Spanish singer in musical history. With his distinctive, sensual voice it is no surprise that he has sold in excess of 250 million albums in different languages. As part of his world tour, Julio Iglesias will travel to Puerto Rico for performances in San Juan on the 18th and 19th October 2007. This is an event that his fans throughout Puerto Rico are looking forward to, with many having already bought their Julio Iglesias tickets.

Julio José Iglesias de la Cueva was born in Madrid on 23 September 1943. He proved to be an exceptional athlete and had his heart set on becoming a professional soccer player. A serious car accident, which left him semi-paralyzed, put an end to his soccer dreams. In the year that followed, with his exceptional will and the ongoing help and support of his family, Julio Iglesias made a recovery from his injuries beyond all expectations. During his recuperation period he wrote many soul-searching, often sad, poems, but had never thought of becoming singer. That all changed when he was given a guitar and started to put his poems to music.

Once Julio Iglesias had recovered; he traveled to Cambridge in England to resume his studies. Julio continued writing songs, but did not see himself as a singer. One day he went to a record company to offer one of his songs to be performed by one of their singers. On hearing Julio singing the song, they convinced him that he should be the one to sing it. He performed at the Benidorn Music Festival and on the 17th of July 1968 he was declared as the winner of the contest. He signed his first contract with Columbia Records – and so a star was born.

There have been many highlights in his career. Notably in 1983, Julio Iglesias was presented by the Guinness Book of World Records with the first and only Diamond Record Award ever given to a singer for selling more records in more languages than any other musical artist in history – Spanish, English, German, French, Portuguese, Italian, Tagalog and Japanese. In 1985 he was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In 1997 he was presented with the Monaco World Music Award for the best Latin singer. Julio Iglesias received the Golden Record Award in China in 1995 – the first time ever for a foreign artist.

Fans should not delay in getting Julio Iglesias tickets. A performance by him is certainly worth seeing and his popularity throughout the world is testimony to his talent. Julio Iglesias is sure to enjoy his visit to the fascinating country of Puerto Rico as much as his fans will enjoy having him there.
