  • Latinos Vs. Afro-Americanos

Hola Latinos!

"Can I have 2 avocado Tacos" (dame 2 tacos de aguacate, por fa.)

"Can you please give me 2 slices of lime in the bag?

Good post, you go girl. I agree with you 100 percent. I had a Dominican friend and she went to this Cuban restaurant and they were calling her all types of racial slurs in Spanish because they didn't know she could understand them. But once she start speaking Spanish they became the cowards that they really are, some people hide behind white pointed hats, some people hide behind their language, some people hide behind a computer. Knowledge is the key. There are more men who are noble by study than by nature. People always ask me why I'm on this site if I'm not into Puerto Rican culture. I thought the answer would be obvious. Kind of like in that Malcolm X movie. Brother Banes tells Malcolm about how favoring books are of whites. They looked up the word white and it said 'beautiful, intelligent, pure, clean, free of filth' etc., and Malcolm said 'white can't mean all those things' and Brother Banes's point was proven. Books written by whites were molded to their ideas, not molded by truth. And Malcolm asks why should he read the books if they're all lies. Then Brother Banes tells him that you have to find their lies and use them against them. So that's what I do and I do it well. I'm a collector of contradictory and hypocrisy. This site is molded by the ideas of Suki and JaneMas and Joshue. In no way am I saying that they belive in that white means all of those things, I am simply saying that they're not black, therefore they take our situation lightly.

        Glad You As An Individual

Are at least trying to find some meaning in race dynamics by posting on this site.

However, it is very common for African Americans to be very dismissive of latinos issues at times.

We all have our hands dirty my brother. Once we can ALL begin to be honest about our own prejudices and resentments there may be some palpable measure of progress in race relations. The problem is where to start. I'm sure we all have ideas about this but nothing is really happening.

The scary part is that I think this is at good as it gets; at least in our lifetime.

I have yet to read anything from certain individuals in admitting that we the Puerto Ricans do in fact, sleep with any color, ethnic group or nationality. We don't think along the lines of "that is not my thing". We look beyond color as history has proven us to be. We are known more for having everyone at the table, including P. Diddy, Kobe, Sammy Davis, Reggie Martinez Jackson, Alicia Keys, Gina Ravera, Rosario Dawson, Kelis, Lloyd Banks, Toya and Adam Clayton Powell IV who are proof of our intermarrage with members of the African American ethnic group.

This is all once again about joining in and becoming Afro-American simply because they see COLOR as a determining factor as to who you are! Hooray for Tiger Woods for being who he really is.

Some Puerto Ricans married some black Americans, so what? That's always everyones scapegoat. It doesn't really prove anything, except my point, which is that Puerto Rican women prefer African American men over Afro-Puerto Rican men. Mainly because we're more socially popular. And I think that they prefer us over white American men because 93% of white men marry white women, and because they're considered 'uncool' even though they are higher on the social ladder than us. But my point is that mixing doesn't really prove very much. My grandmother had a racist neighbor who had mixed grandchildren. I think it does prove that the younger generations are becoming less racist. I have a Mexican friend who has lots of black friends but he has openly admitted that his grandparents hate blacks. So mixing usually represents people individually, not the masses. Mixing doesn't represent equality. As a matter of fact, some racists date interracially. It's been proven on Larry Elder numerous times. There was a white guy on t.v. with his Mexican wife and she said that he called her a spic and all types of names at home. And he argued that she was racist too because she used the N word towards blacks. That's another one of my points, dating outside your race doesn't mean you're not racist. Some people are selectively racist, lots of whites like asians and dislike all other races. I saw a Puerto Rican guy on Divorce Court who divorced his wife because she was black. And he had a baby by her too. But he said 'my parents don't like her, I didn't know that they didn't like black people'. So your argument is invalid.

I understand though. Culture is part of you, like a child. So you love it unconditionally despite the harsh truths of it. LOL, I remember when I was little I said 'Mom, what if I stole something? Would you still love me?' and she said 'of course' then I said 'Mom, what if I killed somebody? Would you still love me? And she said 'of course'. That's unconditional love. That's why no matter what the truth is about something that a person loves, they will defend it till the end. But it still doesn't change things. That's why it takes non-Puerto Ricans to address these issues.

lol! Remember I married and divorced one. Seems you cannot speak for me here. Assumptions are not facts.

White? Or Italians, Germans, French? Can't you understand supply and demand. The numbers don't match. The American English populace is way larger than a few PR women...hello?

                The boggie man is black

The reality in the US is that WHITE is better, is in the media, in the political arena, in the workforce, embedded in the history of this country. People in Latin America go to the plastic surgeon to make themselves more european looking, there are more plastic surgeons in Brasil than in any other country in the world. Puerto Ricans marry white to "mejorar la raza"(better the race). In Peru and other SA countries they do the same to get better paying jobs and gain acceptance, they alter their looks to look "whiter" or more non-indian. Some american blacks who "pass" as whites keep it to themselves in order to not jeopardize their opportunities for marriage and employment. Is it right?, certainly NOT, but people understand that is the reality in the US and this virus has spread to all our neighbors. Look at black magazines, the blacks have thin lips and nice flowing hair, you barely see the real black man or woman, they are basically white people with darker skin. Due to this situation Black skin in the US gets you less opportunities to get a loan, housing, and employment, this is statistically correct(which does not make it right). If you are black you have a greater chance to die of cancer or high blood pressure, heart conditions or to be killed by people of your own race, or drug abuse, or be denied service at Denny's. You don't think that non-blacks see this reality?, no wonder they reject the idea of blackness in the US and despise it, they know the consequences.

                God save us all!!

Well I should say it takes non-Puerto Ricans to help Afro-Puerto Ricans. Especially because they're so naive as Rico has stated. Most of them don't even know racism when they see it. That's why I'm sure there aren't many racist Afro-Latinos, most of them don't even belive it exists.

I think most of that is bullshi+. Some of it is true though, the 'emblanqucimiento' plague is spreading through our communities. It's so powerful I just feel like the only vaccinated person in the world and I feel like I'm surrounded by infected people who need to be quarantined. But believe me, we have more oppurtunity than any other black society in the world. Like I said, I got accepted into a college easily. All you have to do is try and work hard. You should go on the Larry Elder show, he'll straighten you out. He's gonna tell you to stop blaming white Americans for all of your problems because he was disadvantaged to. Then he's gonna tell you how his dad worked hard as a janitor to put him through college and how he became a lawyer and then a black talk show host(something that will never be done in Latin America)'Don't complain about your problems, ask what can you do about them'-Larry Elder

                        Da Fakest

I'm Boricua (Black) through my mother and Cuban (Black) through my father. I don't know where this guy gets the thing that African-American men are "more socially popular". Se esta mamando la pinga right there. I have dated black Americans and in the end prefer to be with a Latino man (of whatever the color). The majority of the black American men that step to ME (a very "socially popular" Latina woman) come off like 50 Cent or some other troglodyte. While there are some men who tend to be more CIVILIZED than others when it comes to African Americans, the majority of the ones I have met are arrogant and full of themselves, thinking they gonna swing some mandingo meat my way. No brotherman.....spare me. I'd rather a strong, secure, respectful and hardworking Papi..... or even a West/Central African man (where the REAL Mandingos are at) over someone like you.

Such a typical attitude for an African-American man hanging around PUERTO RICAN boards thinking we supposed to fall all over you. Trying to save us from our racial ignorance. Pleeeeeeease, deja eso, nene. Go rest yourself cause your tired and bored and THAT'S why you are here at PUERTO RICO dot com and we're not over there at AFRICAN AMERICA dot com. Wasn't it P. Diddy writing songs for J. Lo? I don't remember her writing any songs for HIM? All his "socially-popular" charisma still didn't keep the p*ssy there.

Furthermore, I don't need any U.S. person validating my blackness. I recognize and celebrate Africa EVERY damn day. I am a Bomba dancer and perform with my group spreading awareness of African culture. I live as a Black Queen a LATINA Black Queen. So, step off and step back over to your Afro-American boards where all the race biting and false ideologies are REALLY at.

Another reason to kick the U.S. in their ass and step away as an INDEPENDENT Nation. Lolita get your gun, girl.

Suki I wonder if there are any Puerto Ricans involved?

                          More race hate letters
                          Poison-pen goon wrote stars, judge

                          BY ALISON GENDAR
                          DAILY NEWS POLICE BUREAU

Hate letters were sent to actor Taye Diggs and his wife, "Wicked" star Idina Menzel(above) and Justice Clarence Thomas and his wife, Virginia (below).

The poison-pen racist who sent "sick" hate mail to actors Taye Diggs and Idina Menzel targeted dozens of other prominent interracial couples - including Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas and his wife, the Daily News has learned.
The FBI is investigating more than 70 threats mailed to jurists, entertainers, business leaders and athletes - as well as ordinary people - over the past three years, sources said.

Investigators believe the letters sent to Diggs and Menzel in late November are the work of the same hatemonger who targeted Thomas, Miami Dolphins defensive end Jason Taylor and tennis star James Blake's parents. "These are sick, these letters," a source said. "Sick."

The NYPD's Hate Crimes Task Force, as well as police in Los Angeles, Ohio and Connecticut, are working with the FBI to track down the author, who harasses couples composed of a black man and a white woman.

"In each case, the letters call the black man a sellout or a traitor to his race for dating or marrying a white woman," said a law enforcement source familiar with the investigation.

"The letters say to stop the relationship or the black man will be castrated, set on fire or shot," the source added.

The hate-filled letters have been sent to the FBI and various labs for fingerprint, DNA and other analysis.

"The letters look like the addresses were typed and then photocopied, to make it harder to trace. Someone is trying to be very clever and cover their tracks," said another law enforcement source.

Sources would not share the content of letters sent to Thomas and his wife, Virginia. A spokesman for the Supreme Court did not return phone calls.

Betty Blake of Fairfield, Conn., was stunned when she opened a letter at work to find a message of hate. "They were offensive, hateful letters from someone who is very sick," said Blake, mother of James Blake.

She received one of the letters more than a year ago after an article appeared about her son.

"I was shocked. Nothing like this had happened since our children were small," said Blake, whose husband, Thomas, died recently.

The article noted she worked at the Tennis Club of Trumbull and her husband worked for 3M. The noxious notes arrived at both their jobs.

The same author sent screeds to Diggs and Broadway's Menzel in late November. The writer threatened to burn down the Gershwin Theatre, where Menzel stars in the musical "Wicked," sources said.

Other high-profile targets include NFL defensive star Taylor, whose father is black. The athlete's mother and wife are white.

The letters have similar typeface, language - even spelling - and the majority were postmarked out of Canton, Ohio, a mail distribution center for the Midwest.

In cases where letters were sent to nonfamous couples, investigators believe the author spotted the pairs driving and jotted down their license plates.

A Los Angeles church that married an interracial couple received letters warning church officials they better try to annul the marriage.

                            Jane,
it seems that it is a pro-black only dating type of person writing those letters. So, you have Clarence Thomas and so on couples like Bryant Gumble and etc types dating white women or married to white women. So what? I am not against interracial dating. No one who is humane should be. If I have an issue with the Clarence Thomas types in the world, it is because they are being yes men to conservative republicans and being that themselves. Lol. I really only judge political/ideological affiliations. Not race. That is being superficial. And people's personal lives and sexual orientation is in general of no relevancy to issues that affect society as a whole. How am I affected by if Clarence Thomas wife is white or not? I am not affected either way by if she is or not. Am I affected if Thomas is making decisions in the supreme court of the USA that might take away my rights as a Puerto Rican woman and involved citizen of my society through his right wing Republican policies? YES. That is what interests me. Not the race issues he may have. Where is the dude's head at in terms of philosophy, world view, economic, and social convictions? And he being in a position to affect me as a citizen ruled by laws by a powerful nation state. That is where I can criticize him. Lol. I can't believe how these people are concerned and send hate mail that is irrelevant and stupid and violent. Towards anyone.

                            Suki.

Exactly Suki. And if I were to post on a board of Afro-Americans and ask "Can you guys explain this to me" while I myself happen to be black (assuming I'm black) is nothing more than a cheap shot. That is how I first saw this threads first post and still do.
