    Navy update
The referendum scheduled for November 6th and later rescheduled for January 25th has been cancelled (see newsletter of summer 2001). Navy training exercises scheduled for January have also been cancelled. Meanwhile the U.S. Congress determined that the final decision about when the Navy will leave Vieques will be at the Secretary of the Navy's hands and the Navy is asking for permission to begin training in Vieques with live ammunition. President Bush has been quoted as stating that he stands by the Vieques cause and the Navy must leave by May 2003.

Mayor Serrano was released from jail on December 11th after serving 6 months for entering on restricted area on the Navy's base in Vieques in civil disobedience, a misdemeanor.

Two camps keep active in front of the Camp García gates while state police are on guard on the other side 24 hours a day. No civil disobedience have occurred since April/May when Serrano was arrested, in part due to a moratorium in solidarity with the victims of the terrorist attacks in New York, Washington, D.C., and Pennsylvania.

On January 8th, 59 civilian guards from Camp García were laid off when the Navy decided to substitute them for military personnel. Frank Whorley, spokesperson for Roosevelt Roads base, said the contract with the compay Ready Responsible Security was reduced to keep only personnel at the ROTHR radar and Monte Pirata.

[i]Yeah, no civil disobedience has ocured since April/May like you state Leti, but the continous abuse of the population of the Island of Vieques continues daily with the violation of human rights commited by the U.S. government in contra of our people. The rapings of our sisters, the street attacked of our brothers, the cases of cancer and cancerous tumors rise daily, the complete destruction of the eco-system, the irreverseible destruction of a unique species of coral reef along with the destruction of a phosphorecent bay (1 of only 7 in the world of which Puerto Rico is home to 4 of), the destruction of the unique wildlife species and agriculture. The violation commited by the United States against Puerto Rico has never ceased and I think that is a more better subject to emphasis. The U.S. government and it's Bujwazi run dictatorship don't want people to emphasis these issues. Instead, (since they are in control of the T.V. and Radio stations and what people will view) they cover up thier evil with adressing "civil disobedience" and labeling it to be viewed as something bad, while they market their destruction and violation of our people as something good. Like in the movie 'Mysery' when that sick lady breaks that poor mans legs with a sledge hammer and says "it's for the best!!!" They have their ways of covering up whatever they want and making people think what they brain wash them into thinking, like they've done to all so many "Puerto Ricans" that are from the states as well as on the Island, to seperate us in strength, and further more creating assimilist drone puppets out of those they brain wash the best to seperate us as a people. It's so a shame there are so many of our brothers and sisters just walking around dormently. As they say, there are people who ask "What happend?" people who "wonder what happend", people who "never even knew that something happend" but very few "who know what is happening." Those people that know what's going on are the people the Tyrant U.S. doesn't want people to listen to. They are the people that have been censored by the Dictatorship of the Bujwazi. Come on, if they talk about the protests in Vieques, it will be for less than 60 seconds of thier Bujwazi news air time, meanwhile, they'll spend 5-10 minutes talking about the trendiest and most exquisite places to dine out. The fall of the Tyrant will come one day and thier evil will be brought to an end. They are a disgusting and disgraceful creature, a disease of this planet. Just look at the history of all the atrocious things they have commited against the fellow nations of this planet. There history reveals thier devil faces that they hide from the world.

HELL WILL BE OVERFLOWING WITH THEM WHEN THEY PERISH...
AND THEY WILL PAY FOR THIER EVIL.

    Atentamente,
