Tesla Pays Puerto Rico Homeowners To Share Their Energy

SAN JUAN, PR – Tesla’s new energy initiative pays Powerwall owners to strengthen Puerto Rico’s electric grid.

Joining the Virtual Power Plant (VPP) program lets residents earn by sharing their stored power, especially when the demand is high.

Here’s how it works: When there’s a big need for electricity, like during a power cut, Tesla will use power from many home batteries together.

This helps to keep everyone’s lights on. Powerwall owners get $1 for each kilowatt-hour they share during these times.

Participants can choose how much battery power to save for their homes, staying ready for outages and still earning money.

The program builds a “Tesla community” to support the island.

To join, you need a LUMA Energy account and not be in a similar program. Sign up through the Tesla app. Tesla tracks your shared power and pays you every three months.

Tesla aims to create the largest program of its kind, growing over 300MW to reduce blackouts in Puerto Rico.
