20 Best Luxury Yachts You Can Charter In Puerto Rico (2026)

With so many yachts available for charter, choosing the perfect one for your vacation to Puerto Rico can be hard.

Updated October 17, 2026. We rebuilt this page after checking marina and operator pages for San Juan Bay Marina, Safe Harbor Puerto del Rey, SailXP, Sail PR, Boating Puerto Rico and a Fajardo bareboat listing board. The old “20 named luxury yachts” list mixed unverifiable vessel claims with broker homepage links (and even pointed at a St. Thomas marina). This version sticks to how chartering actually works on the island. Prices move with season and group size — treat the dollar figures as examples from those sites and confirm your own quote.

Most visitors book a private day boat or a shared sail, not a $50,000-a-week mega-yacht. Puerto Rico has real charter options: short harbor sails past Old San Juan, half-day sport yachts out of the capital, and full-day island runs toward Icacos, Palomino, Culebra and Vieques from the Fajardo coast. Multi-day crewed charters and bareboat weeks exist too, usually based on the east coast. If you mainly want a group catamaran day trip, start with our catamaran charters guide.

What “yacht charter” usually means here

  • Private day charter: you reserve the whole boat with a captain (and often a mate). Common for sunsets, snorkel stops, birthday groups and light offshore fishing.
  • Shared / ticketed sail: you buy a seat on a scheduled trip — morning, afternoon or sunset — with a passenger cap set by the boat’s certificate.
  • Bareboat: you skipper the boat yourself for a week (or hire a skipper as an add-on). Operators typically want sailing résumés and a damage deposit.
  • Crewed multi-day: captain, cook and itinerary included; expect to plan and price this like a small floating hotel, not a day-tour ticket.

US-flagged commercial passenger boats on these trips run with a licensed captain. Ask for the Coast Guard license and passenger limit in writing before you pay a deposit.

Two hubs: San Juan vs Fajardo

Hub Best for Typical departures
San Juan Bay Marina (Miramar) Harbor and Atlantic sunsets, Old San Juan views, convenience from Condado / Isla Verde hotels, some offshore fishing San Juan Bay Marina at 482 Ave. Fernández Juncos — VHF 16; haul facilities for yachts up to 65 ft and the metro area’s dry-stack yard
Fajardo — Puerto del Rey (and nearby Villa Marina) Cays and outer islands: Icacos, Palomino, Culebra, Vieques; weekly bareboat and crewed fleets Safe Harbor Puerto del Rey, 4900 State Rd 3 Km. 51.4, Fajardo — VHF 71; wet slips listed from 32' to 200' with up to 15' draft; on-site charter partners include East Island Excursions, Caribe Bliss and Sail Caribe

Pick San Juan if you are staying in the metro and want two to four hours on the water without a drive to the east coast. Pick Fajardo if the goal is sandbars and island beaches; the drive from San Juan is roughly an hour to an hour and a quarter in normal traffic. For town context, see our Fajardo guide. Beach-hopping ideas: Puerto Rico beaches.

One cleanup from the old page: Yacht Haven Grande is in Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas (USVI), not Puerto Rico. It is a useful stop on some combined PR–USVI itineraries, but it is not a San Juan or Fajardo charter base.

Day-charter price examples (San Juan)

Posted all-inclusive private-charter examples from a San Juan Bay Marina operator (Boating Puerto Rico, checked October 2026):

  • Schaefer 45 ft sport yacht — up to 8 guests: about $1,800 for 3 hours or $2,000 for 4 hours.
  • Bertram 70 ft — up to 12 guests: about $3,500 for a 4-hour private charter (fishing charters listed higher).
  • Godfrey 30 ft champagne cruise — up to 6 guests: about $995 for 1.5 hours.

Those quotes were listed as including captain, mate, fuel, soft drinks/beer, fruit and snorkel gear, with a 30% deposit and weather cancelations refunded. Other operators price differently — always get a dated quote for your group size.

Shared sails and shorter outings

If a private yacht is more boat than you need, shared sails from San Juan Bay Marina are the usual step down:

  • SailXP lists 1.5-hour morning and afternoon sails and a 2-hour sunset sail on a 37 ft Lagoon catamaran, capped at six passengers (they note that as a legal limit), with drinks included and a shaded cockpit.
  • Sail PR also docks at San Juan Bay Marina (Slip A72), takes 2–6 passengers, and posts a 48-hour full-refund cancel window (partial/full forfeiture inside that window; weather cancelations refunded or rescheduled at the captain’s call).

These trips stay near the bay and coastline — think El Morro and city lights, not a full day at Icacos.

East-coast island days and weekly boats

From Fajardo, most “yacht day” energy is actually catamaran island trips (snorkel, beach time, lunch). Named operators based at or next to Puerto del Rey include East Island Excursions and Sail Caribe; Villa Marina hosts several other day cats. We cover those routes in detail on catamaran charters.

For a true yacht week, bareboat boards in Fajardo show Lagoon-class catamarans commonly listing in the roughly $9,000–$18,000 per week band before extras (skipper, toys, tip), based on October 2026 Fajardo listings on Yachtico that name Puerto del Rey or Bahia de Fajardo as the base. Crewed mega-yacht weeks are a different market — expect five-figure days, not tour-ticket pricing, and work through a specialist broker once you know dates and guest count.

What to confirm before you pay

  1. Departure marina and meeting point (street address + slip), not just “San Juan” or “Fajardo.”
  2. Passenger certificate / max guests and whether kids count the same as adults.
  3. Captain credentials (USCG license for commercial passenger trips) and whether a mate is included.
  4. What’s in the price: fuel, food, alcohol, snorkel gear, ice, gratuity expectations, transport from San Juan hotels.
  5. Cancelation and weather rules in writing (48-hour windows are common on shared sails; private charters vary).
  6. Itinerary honesty: harbor sunset vs Icacos vs Culebra are different trip lengths and sea conditions. Culebra/Vieques days usually need an east-coast start.

FAQ

How much does it cost to rent a yacht in Puerto Rico?
Shared sails are typically priced per seat. Private day boats we checked in San Juan started around $1,000 for a short champagne cruise and about $1,800–$3,500 for multi-hour sport or motor yachts, all-inclusive. Weekly bareboat catamarans from Fajardo often land near $9,000–$18,000 before add-ons. Luxury crewed weeks cost far more — get a written quote.

Does Puerto Rico have yachts for charter?
Yes. Day boats and sailing cats leave from San Juan Bay Marina; island and weekly fleets concentrate in Fajardo at Puerto del Rey and nearby marinas. You do not need to fly to the USVI to get on the water, though some itineraries combine both.

San Juan or Fajardo — which should I choose?
San Juan for convenience and harbor/Atlantic sunsets. Fajardo for cays and Culebra / Vieques access. Doing both in one short charter is rarely practical.

Is Yacht Haven Grande in Puerto Rico?
No. Yacht Haven Grande is an IGY marina in St. Thomas, USVI. Puerto Rico’s large east-coast base for charters is Puerto del Rey in Fajardo.
