I have visited Culebra many times so I can tell you the best places and areas to stay in.

1. Playa Flamenco
Playa Flamenco is a public beach located north of Culebra Island.
In 2014, TripAdvisor’s Travelers’ Choice awards, which are built from traveler reviews, put this arc-shaped beach third on their list of the world’s best beaches. It’s also one of the most popular beaches to visit for tourists and locals alike.
Flamenco Beach is surrounded by stunning cays which makes it perfect for snorkeling and diving.
There are many kiosks near Flamenco Beach where you can taste refreshing cocktails and Puerto Rican food.

Flamenco Beach is the only place you can legally camp in Culebra.
If you want to wake up on the sand, Villa Flamenco Beach is a small beachfront villa with six studio apartments, not a resort.

2. Zoní Beach
Playa Zoní is located on the northeastern coast of Culebra.
Known as the shy sister of Flamenco given its secluded nature. This beach is perfect for a romantic getaway.
During spring you may come across leatherback turtle’s nests so please be careful when walking.
Unlike Flamenco Beach, Playa Zoní doesn’t have amenities like bathrooms and showers.

Nothing on our list sits right on Zoní. Discover Puerto Rico notes that most of Culebra’s lodging is around Ensenada Honda and that the popular beaches, Zoní among them, are a short drive from there, so sleep in or near town and drive over for the day.

3. Ensenada Honda (Deep Cove)
Ensenada Honda is the largest inlet and the safest harbor of Culebra.
This area is perfect for people who enjoy marine life.
If you love to explore nature, this place is for you. Visit the coastal mangrove forest of Ensenada Honda.
You can also book a boat or a kayak tour to enjoy the perfect day in the ocean.
Make sure to visit the Culebra Historic Museum located only 3 miles from Ensenada Honda.

4. Playa Sardinas II (Sardines Beach II)
Playa Sardinas II is a small sector of Culebra.

There are many areas you can visit in Playa Sardinas like Playa de Cascajo and Lobinas Lagoon.
This area is located in the south of the island, close to Ensenada Honda harbor.

The best place to stay in this area is Club Seabourne. This boutique hotel provides the most relaxing ambiance in Culebra.
5. Dewey, the town by the ferry
Dewey, Culebra’s main town, is where the ferry from Ceiba ties up. Staying here makes sense if you arrive without a car, catch an early or late boat, or simply want dinner within walking distance.
Three small guesthouses in our directory are in or next to town:
- Kokomo faces the ferry plaza, with rooms from economy doubles to apartments for six.
- Posada La Hamaca, at 68 Calle Castelar, is a multi-generation guesthouse with twelve air-conditioned rooms.
- El Navegante sits in a quiet corner of town above Ensenada Honda, and many rooms have balconies over the water.
From town, plan on about ten minutes by car to most of the beaches, so rent a car or golf cart for Flamenco and Zoní.
6. Playa Tamarindo
Playa Tamarindo is located only miles from the ferry terminal.
This is a very popular area in Culebra because it is very close to the entry point of the island.
Visit Playa Tamarindo and enjoy water sports like paddle boarding, kayaking, and snorkeling.

The best place to stay in this area is Alelí Cottages. This resort offers the best views of the island of Culebra.
Is there a hotel on Flamenco Beach?
Not a full-service hotel. The one place to sleep right on the sand, apart from the campground, is Villa Flamenco Beach: six furnished studios, each with air conditioning, a kitchen and Wi-Fi, plus light housekeeping. It takes booking inquiries through its website or by phone at (787) 383-0985 between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. Atlantic time. The other stays near the beach are guesthouses and rentals in the Flamenco area; the rest are in town, where the ferry docks.
Camping at Flamenco Beach
Flamenco has the only campground on Culebra, and it reopened in March 2024. PRDayTrips, a Puerto Rico travel guide published since 2007, lists these rules:
- Reserve ahead; spaces are limited and the campground is busiest in Holy Week, all of July and on holiday weekends. The office numbers are (787) 742-1404 and (787) 742-1400.
- A site costs $35 a night per tent, for up to six people, plus a $2-per-person beach donation and $5 to park a car.
- You check in at the office at the beach entrance and can register for up to seven nights at a time.
- No pets except certified guide dogs, and quiet hours start at 11 p.m.
Are there resorts on Culebra?
Not in the big-hotel sense. Club Seabourne is the nearest thing: it calls itself an intimate mini-resort, with villas up the hill over Fulladoza Bay, a pool and a bar. Check-in starts at 3 p.m., and the front desk takes arrivals until 9 p.m., so call ahead if you are on a late ferry. If you want a resort with several pools and restaurants, sleep in Fajardo or Río Grande and visit Culebra for the day, or split the trip.

Culebra is 7 miles long by 3.5 miles wide. You can walk the entire island in a matter of hours. Three days is more than enough for a pleasant stay.
