Renew a Puerto Rico driver’s license

CESCO Digital handles most renewals. Start up to 60 days before expiration. Real ID has a stricter document list—check CESCO before you go.

  1. Check your expiration

Look at your physical license. CESCO lets you start renewal online in the window before it expires.

  2. Gather Real ID documents if you need them

Identity, lawful status, Social Security number and two proofs of PR residence are typical Real ID requirements. Confirm the current list on CESCO Digital.

  3. Sign in to CESCO Digital

Create or open your account at the official CESCO Digital portal.

  4. Pay or book an appointment

Complete the online renewal if offered, or reserve a Turnos PR slot for an in-person visit.

  5. Keep the receipt

Save the confirmation. Unpaid tickets can block renewals—clear them in CESCO Digital first if needed.

Register a Puerto Rico LLC or corporation

Domestic entities file with the Department of State under the Corporations Act (Law 164-2009, as amended). This is a checklist, not legal advice.

  1. Choose the entity type and name

Confirm the name is available in the corporate registry (RCP) search before you file.

  2. Prepare the certificate of organization / incorporation

Include the required articles for an LLC or corporation under Law 164.

  3. File with the Department of State

Submit through the official corporations channel and pay the filing fee.

  4. Get a federal EIN if you need one

Apply on IRS.gov for an Employer Identification Number when the business needs a federal tax ID.

  5. Register with Hacienda / SURI when required

Merchants and employers typically need Hacienda accounts (IVU, withholding). Start from Hacienda or the gobierno digital directory.

  6. Keep Good Standing

File annual reports and request certificates of existence / Good Standing through the registry when banks or partners ask.

Act 60 orientation checklist (not tax advice)

Act 60 / individual investor decrees involve bona fide residency and Hacienda processes that change over time. Use this only as a reading order, then talk to a licensed advisor. We do not estimate tax savings here.

  1. Read the current rules

Start with our Act 60 guide for the 2027 changes and residency themes, then the official decree materials.

  2. Confirm bona fide residency concepts

Presence, tax home and closer-connection tests are federal concepts that interact with Puerto Rico decrees—get professional advice.

  3. Budget the move with real quotes

Use the moving budget calculator with your rent and shipping quotes; do not rely on invented averages.

  4. Follow official filing channels

Decree applications and Hacienda interactions go through official portals—never through random third-party “guaranteed savings” pages.
