Wave, swell and sea-surface temperature: Open-Meteo Marine API (model data on a ~5 km grid, just offshore of each beach). Wind and UV: Open-Meteo forecast API.
These are model estimates, not a safety forecast. Rip currents are the leading hazard at Puerto Rico's beaches and are not shown here. Check the NWS San Juan surf zone forecast and rip current risk, obey flags and lifeguards, and never swim alone where there is no lifeguard.
How to read this
- Wave height is the model's significant wave height: roughly the average of the highest third of waves. Individual sets can be much bigger.
- Swell period is the time between waves. Longer periods (10+ seconds) carry more power and usually mean better surf.
- Labels such as "calm" and "large" are our plain-language bands for wave height: calm under 1 ft, small 1–3 ft, moderate 3–6 ft, large over 6 ft.
- North and west coasts get the big winter swells (November–March); the south coast and Caribbean side are usually calmer.
