Funding and Features
El Vocero reported that $30,600,901, or 69.19 percent of the financing, came from the Community Development Block Grant-Disaster Recovery program. The remaining $13,627,424 was obtained through low-income housing tax credits. González Colón was joined by Housing Secretary Luis Augusto Martínez, Housing Finance Authority Executive Director Ricardo Álvarez and Rep. Víctor Parés.
The eight-story building includes two levels of underground parking and six levels for residential units and common areas. Each apartment has two bedrooms, a private balcony, an Energy Star-certified kitchen with stove and refrigerator, tankless water heaters and water-conservation devices. The complex features a generator supplying 100 percent of electrical demand, solar panels, elevators, surveillance cameras, controlled access, fire-protection systems, two laundry areas, 62 parking spaces, green areas and common spaces, both sources stated.
Focus on Recovery and Resilience
González Colón said the project turns recovery funds into permanent solutions for housing needs. Both El Vocero and NotiCel quoted her stating, “Cada proyecto que completamos es una muestra de que la recuperación de Puerto Rico tiene que sentirse en la vida diaria de nuestra gente.”
The governor highlighted the incorporation of energy efficiency and resilience measures. She added that the administration will continue promoting affordable housing projects adapted to the needs of older adults.
Where the sources differ
El Vocero and NotiCel agree on all core facts including the inauguration date, location, total cost of $44.2 million, funding split between CDBG-DR and tax credits, unit counts and subsidy details, income limits, building features and the governor's attendance and remarks. El Vocero provided a more precise CDBG-DR percentage (69.19 percent) and exact funding figures while NotiCel rounded the funding amounts. Both outlets used nearly identical phrasing for the governor's main quotes.
What the reports do not say
The reports do not specify how many older adults have already been selected as tenants, when the first residents will move in, whether there is a waiting list, or the exact timeline for similar future projects. They also do not detail the total number of applications received or any selection criteria beyond income limits.
