Case referred to investigative unit
Agent José García, assigned to the Guayanilla district, conducted the preliminary investigation, according to both outlets. The case has been referred to the Property Division of the Criminal Investigation Corps (CIC) in Ponce for further investigation.
Police asked anyone with information to contact the confidential tip line at 787-343-2020. The two news organizations gave nearly identical accounts of the amounts stolen and the items taken.
Where the sources differ
Metro Puerto Rico and Primera Hora agree on all key facts: the location on PR-127 in barrio Los Sitios, the Friday morning report, the forced main door, the exact breakdown of stolen cash ($35,000 from slot machines, $7,000 from safe, $600 from register), the $6,000 in merchandise and the total near $48,600-$49,000. Both name Agent José García as the preliminary investigator and the referral to CIC Ponce, and both list the same tip line number. The only minor difference is that Metro Puerto Rico uses "approximately $48,600" while Primera Hora says "cerca de $49 mil" and lists the merchandise separately.
What the reports do not say
The reports do not say how the burglars transported the stolen items, whether the business had surveillance cameras or if any footage was obtained, the exact time the break-in occurred, whether fingerprints or other evidence were recovered, or if there are any suspects. They also do not indicate whether the gas station was open for business later that day or what security measures the owner plans to take.
