Ponce pitching dominates in home opener
The Leones de Ponce defeated the Cangrejeros de Santurce 5-0 on Thursday at the Estadio Francisco “Paquito” Montaner in the 2026-27 season of the Liga de Béisbol Profesional Roberto Clemente (LBPRC). Both teams moved to a 1-1 record, El Vocero reported.
Six Leones pitchers combined to limit Santurce to two hits. Alex Claudio (1-0) earned the win in relief. Darryl Thompson (0-1) took the loss. Andrew Marrero earned the save after pitching one and one-third innings, El Vocero reported. Chris Arroyo drove in the first run with a second-inning double. Will Simoneit added a sacrifice fly in the fourth and Ezequiel Pagán had an RBI single in the fifth. A bases-loaded walk to Jesmuel Valentín and an eighth-inning run completed the scoring, both outlets reported.

Where the sources differ
Both El Vocero and Metro Puerto Rico agree on the final score of 5-0, the location in Ponce, the six Leones pitchers used, the sequence of Ponce scoring (second, fourth, fifth and eighth innings), and that both teams stand at 1-1. El Vocero provides specific details on Darryl Thompson allowing two runs in four innings and names Gabriel Rodríguez among the pitchers; Metro Puerto Rico does not mention Thompson's statistics or Rodríguez. Metro Puerto Rico adds full coverage of the other two Thursday games and the rain postponement between San Juan and Caguas while El Vocero focuses solely on the Ponce contest.
What the reports do not say
The reports do not state how many fans attended the Ponce game, the exact number of strikeouts or walks issued by each pitcher beyond selected mentions, or whether any injuries occurred. They also do not indicate broadcast details, ticket sales impact or the full 2026-27 season schedule beyond the Leones' Friday game in Caguas.

How we checked this
El Vocero and Metro Puerto Rico both covered the Leones' shutout victory with overlapping but not identical details on pitching and scoring. Metro Puerto Rico is the sole source for the Carolina and San Juan victories plus the rain-related postponement. Only El Vocero named all six Ponce pitchers and gave Thompson's exact line.
