The short version

  • NotiCel reports the event will take place on Friday, Nov. 6 in the Samuel R. Quiñones Hall at the Luis A. Ferré building in El Capitolio
  • Metro Puerto Rico reports six judges from New York courts and members of the Puerto Rican Bar Association will participate for the first time
  • Elba Torres Matundan of CROEM ALUMNI confirmed the participation via the Puerto Rican Bar Association led by Lillian Mosley according to both outlets
  • Wilson Nazario told reporters that participants will receive the official plaque and insignia granting lifetime membership in the Puerto Rico Delegation

First-Time Participation by New York Judicial Professionals

A group of Puerto Rican judges and lawyers working in the New York judicial system will take part for the first time in the traditional Día de Logros. NotiCel reported the activity is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 6 in San Juan as part of the activities tied to Puerto Rican Week in New York. The event will also recognize community and business leaders.

According to Metro Puerto Rico, the ceremony will be held in the Samuel R. Quiñones Salon of the Luis A. Ferré building at El Capitolio. It will bring together mayors, legislators, business people and leaders from Puerto Rico and the United States. The Committee Organizing the Puerto Rico Delegation expressed satisfaction at the confirmation received from the Puerto Rican Bar Association of New York.

Confirmed Attendees and Recognitions

Elba Torres Matundan, presidential delegate of CROEM ALUMNI, informed that the judges confirmed are Wanda Y. Negrón of the Bronx County Court, Lumarie Maldonado Cruz of the New York Supreme Court, Karina Alomar presiding judge of the Queens Criminal Court, Carmen A. Pacheco supervisor judge of the Unified Court System of the State of New York, Betty Lugo Martínez superior judge of the Bronx Civil Court, and Patrick Hayes Torres of the Kings County Civil Court, NotiCel reported.

The Puerto Rican Bar Association group will be led by its president, Lillian Mosley, and will include Olga Arandia, Yomaira Martin, Roberto Martínez, Ángel Cruz, Valeria Ortiz and Lissett Ferreira, both outlets reported. Raúl Russi, CEO of ACACIA Network and a native of Patillas, will also participate. Representatives of the National Puerto Rican Day Parade board, including president Lillian Rodríguez López, Melodie Maldonado, Dora Díaz and Rosa Gutiérrez, are expected, along with José González Freyre of Pan American Grain and Ramón González Simounet of Grupo EMPIRE Gas, who will receive special recognitions.

Lifetime Membership for Participants

Wilson Nazario, executive director of the Delegation, stated that those who receive the official plaque and insignia during the activity will become lifetime members of the group that travels annually to New York for the National Puerto Rican Parade on Fifth Avenue, Metro Puerto Rico reported.

The activity forms part of the broader recognition program within the Puerto Rican Week observances. Both NotiCel and Metro Puerto Rico noted that the event highlights the contributions of Puerto Rican professionals in New York while strengthening ties with the island’s annual delegation.

Where the sources differ

NotiCel and Metro Puerto Rico largely agree on the date, location, list of judges and lawyers, and purpose of the Nov. 6 event. Both name Elba Torres Matundan as the source confirming judicial participation through the Puerto Rican Bar Association and Wilson Nazario regarding the lifetime membership. Metro Puerto Rico refers to the event as a “Ceremonia de Reconocimientos” and mentions the “Comité Organizador de la Delegación,” while NotiCel uses “Día de Logros” and attributes the information directly to Torres Matundan and Nazario without mentioning a formal committee. Slight variations exist in the exact titles given to some judges, such as Lumarie Maldonado Cruz.

What the reports do not say

The reports do not specify the exact start time of the Capitol event, how many total people will attend, or the precise criteria used to select the honorees beyond their professional roles and community involvement. They also do not detail the agenda, whether public attendance is permitted, or any speeches planned. Future participation plans for additional New York Puerto Rican professionals remain unaddressed.
