The short version

  • El Vocero reports the Servicio Nacional de Meteorología said San Juan reached 94°F on Monday at Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport, breaking the Oct. 26 record for the second consecutive day
  • Primera Hora states the National Weather Service posted on social media that it confirmed the new record of 94°F, which exceeds the 2014 mark of 93°F
  • El Vocero reports both Sunday and Monday highs were above the normal maximum of around 88°F for this time of year
  • El Vocero and Primera Hora report the National Weather Service maintained a heat advisory until 5 p.m. for Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands

Consecutive records set

San Juan broke its daily heat record for the second day in a row on Monday, Oct. 26, 2026. El Vocero reported that the Servicio Nacional de Meteorología (SNM) recorded a maximum temperature of 94°F at Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport. This surpassed the previous record of 93°F for that date, which had been set in 2014.

The previous day, Sunday, Oct. 25, the city also reached 94°F, again exceeding the 2014 record of 93°F for that date, according to both El Vocero and Primera Hora. The records are part of San Juan's official climatological history dating back to 1898, El Vocero reported.

Heat advisory in effect

The National Weather Service maintained a heat advisory until 5 p.m. Monday for Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands due to the risk of heat-related illnesses, El Vocero reported. The agency noted that the combination of high temperatures and elevated humidity would continue to pose risks, particularly for people without adequate hydration or access to cool spaces.

Primera Hora reported that winds from the southeast brought humidity to the region on Monday, with mostly stable conditions allowing temperatures to rise quickly. The outlet also reported that several weather stations met heat advisory criteria by midday.

Forecast for coming days

El Vocero reported that the SNM said the effects of the heat could persist into Tuesday before gradually decreasing on Wednesday. The forecast for Tuesday called for temperatures between 90 and 95°F in San Juan with high humidity and possible showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon.

Primera Hora reported on Sunday that temperatures were expected to remain above normal with sufficient surface humidity and southeast winds, which could lead to additional heat-related alerts in the following days. The outlet quoted the National Weather Service advising people to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged sun exposure.

Where the sources differ

All three sources agree that San Juan set a new heat record of 94°F on Monday, Oct. 26, 2026, breaking the 93°F mark from 2014, and that the same occurred on Sunday, Oct. 25. El Vocero and Primera Hora both quote the same National Weather Service/SNM social media statement about the Monday record. El Vocero adds that the records are part of official history since 1898, that Monday's high was recorded at Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport, that normal highs are around 88°F, and that heat effects may ease on Wednesday. Primera Hora's two articles provide more meteorological context on winds, humidity and limited shower development but do not mention the airport, the 1898 history or the Wednesday easing. The sources do not conflict on any numbers or dates.

What the reports do not say

The reports do not state whether the heat records were measured by official instruments or if any heat-related illnesses were reported. They also do not specify exact temperatures reached at other stations beyond the San Juan airport or provide details on any government response beyond the advisory. The articles do not say if new heat alerts were issued after 5 p.m. Monday or what the expected high would be on Wednesday.
