Crash details
A 36-year-old woman died in a traffic accident reported at 12:50 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 8, on highway 9929 in front of the María T. Delgado school in San Lorenzo. Metro Puerto Rico reported that the victim was identified as Jostheline Figueroa, a resident of San Lorenzo, who was driving a 1999 Toyota Tercel.
According to police, Figueroa was traveling at a speed that did not allow her to maintain control of the steering wheel, causing her to invade the opposite lane and strike the left side of a 2023 Kia Sportage. El Nuevo Día reported that the Kia was driven by a 46-year-old man identified in other outlets as Andrés Vélez Martínez.

Injuries and investigation
Figueroa was assisted by paramedics at the scene, but they certified she showed no vital signs. The two female passengers in the Kia Sportage, ages 47 and 64, sustained minor injuries. Primera Hora reported that a breath-alcohol test administered to Vélez Martínez produced a reading of 0.106 percent.
Both vehicles were seized as part of the investigation. Agent Joel Martínez of the Caguas Highway Patrol Division, along with prosecutor Dalinés Hernández, are in charge of the case, all three outlets stated.
Where the sources differ
All three sources agree on the date, time, location, victim name and age, vehicle makes and years, the cause of the crash, the other driver's name and age, the passengers' ages and injury level, the breath-test result, the seizure of the vehicles, and the names of the investigating agent and prosecutor. Metro Puerto Rico and Primera Hora give the precise road number as 9929 or PR-9929 while El Nuevo Día refers to it as carretera 9929. The sources use nearly identical language on the sequence of events.
What the reports do not say
The reports do not state whether Figueroa was wearing a seat belt, the posted speed limit on that section of road 9929, whether toxicology tests will be performed on her, the exact nature of the minor injuries to the passengers, or what charges if any may be filed against Vélez Martínez. No information is given on next steps in the investigation or any traffic citations issued at the scene.
