The short version

  • Air Cargo News reported that FlyUs is opening a new office in San Juan following a contract with Air Canada Cargo
  • FlyUs will provide agency services for Air Canada’s three weekly freighter flights between Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport and Toronto Pearson
  • The company will focus on pharmaceutical exports from the island, citing Puerto Rico’s status as the top US bioscience manufacturing hub by export volume
  • FlyUs already represents Air Canada in Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Ecuador and several Central American countries

New Puerto Rico base

FlyUs is setting up a new base in San Juan after winning the role of general sales and service agent for Air Canada Cargo, Air Cargo News reported. The firm will manage the carrier’s three weekly cargo flights connecting Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU) to its Toronto Pearson hub (YYZ).

Both Air Cargo News and IndexBox indicate that the company plans to emphasize shipments of medicines produced locally. FlyUs president and chief executive Carlo de Haas stated that "Puerto Rico is the number one bioscience manufacturing hub" in the United States by export volume, which drives strong demand for dependable temperature-controlled air freight services.

Longstanding partnership

This new role adds to years of collaboration. FlyUs already acts for Air Canada in Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Ecuador and several nations in Central America, IndexBox noted. Matthieu Casey, managing director of commercial cargo at Air Canada, said "FlyUs has proven to be a trusted partner" through the strong performance delivered in those territories.

Casey noted that building on the partnership by adding Puerto Rico made sense and that dependable capacity out of one of the United States’ key export centers is a key element of Air Canada’s freight business. FlyUs brings considerable expertise in moving temperature-sensitive shipments, especially medicines, fresh produce and cut flowers.

Global expansion plans

FlyUs now works with 24 carriers in 28 cities worldwide and has additional branches scheduled to open during the rest of 2026 and through 2027, according to Air Cargo News. De Haas called the new Puerto Rico location another move toward broadening the firm’s international presence and improving support for its airline clients.

He explained that the approach involves ongoing growth in locations where its specialized freight expertise delivers real benefits, and the island represents one more platform for that work. IndexBox published the same comments from both executives.

Where the sources differ

Both Air Cargo News and IndexBox agree on all core facts, including the opening of the San Juan office, the three-weekly SJU-YYZ freighter service, the pharmaceutical focus, the existing relationship in multiple countries, and the quotes from Carlo de Haas and Matthieu Casey. The reports are nearly identical in content; IndexBox translates and slightly paraphrases some passages into Spanish in its headline and introductory sentence but presents the same executive statements in English. No numerical, factual or chronological conflicts exist between the two sources.

What the reports do not say

The reports do not specify when the new San Juan office will open, how many staff it will employ, the exact start date of the Air Canada Cargo contract, the aircraft type used on the route, or the volume of pharmaceutical cargo expected to be handled. They also omit details on pricing, any competing cargo services on the route, or specific next steps for the expansion beyond general plans for additional offices in 2026-2027.
