Agreement signed
The Hospital Universitario Docente Traumatológico Dr. Ney Arias Lora signed a collaboration agreement with the Centro de Trauma de Puerto Rico and the Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) program. Diario Salud reported the pact aims to strengthen specialized medical training and improve care for trauma patients in the Dominican Republic.
Hospital director Dr. Víctor Rosario Suazo said the initiative will allow the hospital to develop and reproduce internationally used knowledge and protocols in other hospitals across the country. He added that it will improve the preparation of health personnel and the capacity to respond to emergencies. Rosario noted that the hospital has now incorporated specialized training that previously required physicians to travel to Puerto Rico.

Course completion and instructors
As part of the agreement, a group of physicians from the hospital successfully completed a two-month ATLS course held on site. Hoy Digital reported the instructors included Dr. Héctor Fontánez, ATLS coordinator in Puerto Rico; Dr. Pablo Rodríguez Ortiz, medical director of the Centro de Trauma de Puerto Rico; and Alexander Pacheco, ATLS coordinator.
Other participants listed were thoracic surgeons Bienvenido Peña and Julio César Jiménez, general surgeon Alejandro Soto, neurosurgeon Lizardy de la Cruz, and anesthesiologist Patrick Sánchez. The course featured theoretical and practical training across eight stations.
ATLS program details
The ATLS program is sponsored by the Trauma Committee of the American College of Surgeons. N Digital reported its goal is to strengthen physicians' knowledge and skills for the initial evaluation and management of trauma patients.
Training covered management of airways, breathing, circulation, hemorrhage control, neurological evaluation, team communication, secondary assessment, triage, use of equipment for life-threatening injuries, and criteria for referring patients to other facilities. The initiative has the support of Dr. Julio César Landrón, director of the Servicio Nacional de Salud.
Where the sources differ
All four sources agree on the signing of the agreement between Hospital Ney Arias Lora, the Centro de Trauma de Puerto Rico and the ATLS program, the names of the Puerto Rican instructors, the list of local participating specialists, the two-month course duration, and the topics covered. Diario Salud adds that the hospital is now the only one in the country with this collaboration and that the director highlighted reproducing protocols in other hospitals. The other three sources repeat nearly identical text on the director's statements and course details, with minor variations in phrasing. RC Noticias uniquely notes the hospital becomes the only center in the country with this ATLS alliance.
What the reports do not say
The reports do not specify when the agreement was signed, the exact number of physicians who completed the course, whether ongoing training will be offered, or any commitments from the Puerto Rico side beyond providing instructors. No details are given on costs, future exchanges, or measurable improvements expected in trauma care outcomes.
