Medical update
On Monday, Dr. Regino Colón Alsina, executive director of the Administración de Servicios Médicos de Puerto Rico, said the emergency room received the patient and that clinical protocols were activated. NotiCel reported that he stated medical, nursing and support staff continue to provide all necessary resources for her care. The doctor’s statement described the woman as being in condición crítica.
Telemundo Puerto Rico reported the woman died after the fall, an account that conflicts with the other five outlets.
Where the sources differ
All six sources agree on the woman’s name, age, town of residence, the approximate time of the fall on Oct. 11, the location at paseo Víctor Rojas in Arecibo, the sequence of jumping a concrete wall then slipping, the height of more than 10 feet, the presence of fishermen witnesses, the agencies that responded, and that agent Juan Montalvo is investigating. Five outlets (El Vocero, Telemundo, Metro, El Nuevo Día, Primera Hora) published on Oct. 11 and described her condition as “de cuidado” or guarded after transport to a hospital. NotiCel on Oct. 12 reported the ASEM director saying she is in “condición crítica.” Telemundo is the only source that states the woman died.
What the reports do not say
The reports do not state the woman’s current location or condition on the evening of Oct. 12, whether she remains hospitalized at ASEM or was transferred, the exact nature of her injuries, any official determination on how or why she jumped the wall, or what if any safety measures exist at the site. No updates from police or family are included.
