Court appearance and conditions of release
Agent José L. Rivera Mercado of the Arecibo Highway Patrol Division investigated the case in coordination with prosecutor José Acevedo Acevedo, who filed the charge of serious imprudence or negligence under Article 5.07(c) of the traffic law, all three outlets stated.
On Friday, Oct. 30, Judge Alba Calderón Cestero of the Arecibo court found probable cause for arrest. She set bail at $10,000, which Figueroa Vargas posted. He was released under electronic monitoring with an ankle bracelet until the next court date, El Nuevo Día reported.
Where the sources differ
The three sources agree on the defendant's name and age, the date and exact location of the crash, the vehicles involved, the victim's identity, occupation and place of death, the specific charge, the investigating agent and prosecutor, the judge's name, the bail amount and the electronic-monitoring condition. El Vocero attributes the filing of charges to the Department of Justice, while El Nuevo Día and Primera Hora emphasize the judge's finding of probable cause on Friday. Minor spelling variations appear for the motorcycle model (Boulevard/Bulevar) but describe the same vehicle.
What the reports do not say
The reports do not state the current medical examiner's determination of cause of death, whether any blood or toxicology tests were performed on either driver, the precise speed of the vehicles, whether the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet, or the scheduled date for the next court hearing. No information is given on traffic citations issued at the scene or any civil claims filed by the victim's family.
