Incident details
A sergeant with the Hatillo Municipal Police was injured early Sunday while conducting preventive patrols for violations of Puerto Rico's traffic law on road PR-490 in barrio Pajuil (also referred to as Pagil), Hatillo. El Nuevo Día reported that Sgt. Carlos Villanueva Cordero ordered the rider of a yellow 2023 Qianxin FY-200T motorcycle to stop. According to both outlets, the driver instead threw the motorcycle at the sergeant, striking him in the left knee.
Paramedics assisted Villanueva Cordero at the scene and transported him to Metro Pavía hospital in Arecibo, where he was listed in stable condition. Agent Ovidio Mercado of the Hatillo police district responded, identified the rider as 29-year-old Jaime O. Recinos Lemus of Hatillo, and observed signs that he was under the influence of alcohol. Primera Hora reported that the events unfolded during the night of Saturday into the early hours of Sunday while a group of motorcycles was riding on PR-130.

Arrest and charges
Recinos Lemus was arrested and taken to the Arecibo Highway Patrol Division for a breath test, which registered 0.091% blood-alcohol content. Primera Hora noted that the legal limit for operating a motorcycle in Puerto Rico is 0.02%. The motorcycle was seized as evidence.
The case has been referred to authorities and is scheduled to be heard in court on Oct. 30. Both El Nuevo Día and Primera Hora based their accounts on preliminary police reports.
Where the sources differ
Both El Nuevo Día and Primera Hora agree on the name of the injured sergeant (Carlos Villanueva Cordero), the name and age of the arrested motorist (Jaime O. Recinos Lemus, 29), the model of the motorcycle (Qianxin FY-200T), the injury location (left knee), the hospital (Metro Pavía in Arecibo), the breath-test result (0.091%), and that the motorist allegedly threw the motorcycle at the officer. They differ slightly on location wording (El Nuevo Día says carretera 490, barrio Pagil; Primera Hora says intersection of PR-130 and PR-490, barrio Pajuil) and on exact timing (El Nuevo Día says "esta madrugada"; Primera Hora specifies night of Saturday into Sunday morning). Primera Hora alone states the legal blood-alcohol limit and the motorcycle's year and color.
What the reports do not say
The reports do not state whether additional charges beyond driving under the influence and assault on an officer will be filed, whether the motorist had passengers or if others in the group were cited, what the precise time of the incident was, or whether the sergeant required surgery or will be placed on administrative leave. No information is given on the motorist's prior record or the next court appearance details beyond the Oct. 30 date.
