Separate Incidents Lead to Arrests
A judge in Mayagüez found probable cause to arrest Gerson Toro Pérez, 42, for allegedly assaulting a woman in San Germán on Oct. 13, Telemundo Puerto Rico reported. According to police, Toro Pérez struck the victim after she told him to leave the residence. The victim suffered bruises. Authorities filed charges under Law 54 for domestic violence. Judge Margieanne Casiano set global bail at $50,000. Toro Pérez did not post bail and was booked and transferred to the Ponce Correctional Institution. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 28, 2026.
In a separate case, Yariangellys Jiménez, 33, of San Juan, was ordered held after a judge found probable cause that she stabbed her partner multiple times on Oct. 15, El Vocero reported. Police said the incident occurred around 4:45 p.m. Jiménez faces charges of aggravated abuse under Law 54 and carrying and using a bladed weapon under Puerto Rico weapons law. Judge Lisa M. Details of the Cases
The two cases are unrelated. Telemundo Puerto Rico reported that the San Germán victim sustained bruises. Police sources told El Vocero and other outlets that the San Juan victim was stabbed in different parts of the body. No further details on the victims' conditions were released by authorities.
Where the sources differ
All four sources agree that both suspects were jailed after failing to post bail following judicial findings of probable cause. Telemundo, El Vocero and Metro Puerto Rico coincide on Jiménez's age, the San Juan date and time, the $75,000 bail amount, and her transfer to the Bayamón women's facility. Only El Vocero added the specific weapons-law charge. For the San Germán case, only Telemundo Puerto Rico reported the details, naming Gerson Toro Pérez, the Oct. 13 date, the $50,000 bail, the Ponce facility, and the Oct. 28 hearing date. The sources do not conflict on any facts.
What the reports do not say
The reports do not state the current medical condition of either victim, whether the victims required hospitalization, the precise nature or number of stab wounds, any prior history between the parties, or what protective measures if any were ordered for the victims. No information is given on possible sentences or whether the defendants have attorneys.
