Court proceedings
El Nuevo Día reported that after the investigation concluded the prosecutor consulted with Fiscal José Román who instructed the filing of charges under Article 5.07 C of the Ley de Vehículos y Tránsito. The case was presented before Judge Ángel Candelario Cáliz of the Ponce court who found probable cause for arrest.
Both news outlets reported that the judge set bail at $2000 which the defendant posted. He was released under the electronic supervision program with home detention until the preliminary hearing scheduled for Nov. 17 2026.
Where the sources differ
The two sources largely agree on the names ages date location vehicle description sequence of events and court outcome. El Nuevo Día attributes the investigation to agents of the División de Homicidios of the Ponce CIC and gives the precise statutory citation Article 5.07 C while Primera Hora refers more generally to the Ley de Vehículos y Tránsito and uses the English phrase “hit and run.” Both confirm the same judge prosecutor bail amount and hearing date. Neither source conflicts on any material fact.
What the reports do not say
The reports do not state whether the defendant provided a statement to police beyond identifying himself as the driver whether any toxicology or mechanical testing was performed on the vehicle or whether there were any independent witnesses to the collision. No information is given on the victim’s next of kin funeral arrangements or any civil claim. The sources also do not indicate whether the electronic monitoring conditions include any geographic restrictions beyond home detention.
