Incident details

A couple from Connecticut was targeted in a shooting while feeding stray dogs late Wednesday night in Loíza, El Nuevo Día reported. The incident occurred at 11:24 p.m. on PR-188 in front of the Yuquiyú residential project. According to police, three individuals surprised the pair and fired at their black Ford Bronco while they were inside the vehicle.

Investigation

Agent Rafael Muñoz of the Loíza precinct conducted the preliminary investigation and referred the case to the Assaults Division of the Criminal Investigation Corps in Carolina, Primera Hora reported. El Nuevo Día also stated that the case is being handled by the Carolina CIC's Assaults Division.

No arrests have been reported and the identities of the tourists and the suspects have not been released.

Where the sources differ

Both El Nuevo Día and Primera Hora agree on the date and time of the incident (11:24 p.m. Wednesday), the location (PR-188 in front of the Yuquiyú residential project in Loíza), the number of suspects (three), the fact that the victims were feeding stray dogs, that two bullets struck the black Ford Bronco, and that no one was injured. The sources differ slightly in wording: El Nuevo Día refers to the victims as a couple inside the vehicle while Primera Hora specifies a man and a woman from Connecticut who narrated the events to police. Both name the Carolina CIC but only Primera Hora names Agent Rafael Muñoz as the officer who performed the preliminary investigation.

What the reports do not say

The reports do not identify the tourists by name or age, give any description of the three gunmen, state whether the couple was visiting Loíza specifically to feed dogs or if it was incidental, or indicate whether any shell casings were recovered or if a motive has been established. It is also unclear what steps if any police have taken beyond referring the case to the CIC.
